I have had enough of Glamis. Too many deuschebags that outweigh the good families just trying to have fun with their kids.

There are a$$hats everywhere. I wont give up G for them. I just avoid the bigger weekends now. Except Tday. Exception for every rule I guess...

Higher wash numbers = less crowds. Less crowds = less dust/less noise (usually). The trains run ALL night, I think I counted 12 - 15 after 10pm. Don't set camp too near the road/tracks, train wrecks are not uncommon out there with all the shifting sand and knuckleheads.

As for the season permit, they are good Oct.1 - Sept. 30.

Another fun area is Buttercup, on the south side of Hwy 8. Just be aware of your proximity to the border.

Just my 2 cents.

Not going to be tough to find the border now that there is going to be a fence along the dunes.

You and your family can have a blast out there regardless of all the riff raff if you find the right spot.
The great part about Glamis is you can ride for hours and hardly see anyone, or hit the hot spots and be with a million people!
We usually camp in 14 which is pretty crowded these days during peak season.
It gets a little noisy at night but nothing I cant sleep thru!
If one wash looks busy just keep going until you find one that looks better down the road.
We get as far back into the washes from the tracks as possible without getting stuck.
If you pull in at night dont go to far in if your not sure, I have come in late and tired, got stuck, and was more tired by the time I got to bed.
Never had to get pulled out though, dig out, air everything down, unhook, straighten out and crawled out.
It is still way too hot for me, but I am counting the days until we get back out there!
Take some pics and post!

I am getting pretty excited, I leave tomorrow morning.. I am a bit concerned about the forecast of 105 for the hole time we are there, but I guess this is why we have AC. With a new baby that geni is going to run day and night..

I just put in 4 point harnesses in the new Rhino and after trying them out I with I would have gotten 5 point. The lap belt rides up pretty high when tightening the shoulders. I guess I will just have to add the 5th later..

Thank you all for your help. I think I am going to check out the Flats behind the store just after Gecko that SteveT777 mentioned and if that don't look good off to the washes..

Just be careful with the heat.
Take plenty of water on rides and don't ride alone....
Take a cell phone with you and GPS is you have one.

Try this link:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Glamis,+Imperial,+California,+United+States&ie=UTF8&cd=2&geocode=FTuB9wEd4ick-Q&ll=32.994015,-115.074792&spn=0.017133,0.027466&t=h&z=15

That should take you to a picture of where I stay. South Side of Highway 78 and west of the store. You will see turn off signs for the different camping spots. The first one will be Gecko which will be more of a road that goes to your right. The second will be something Outlook which is a short road on your right that goes to the top of a hill. The place I stay says either Glamis Flats or Beach. When you turn in go straight (slight down hill)for about 1000 yards then turn left. If you turn to soon sometimes the sand can be soft. You will be able to see what is hard packed and not. Then camp anywhere that looks good. To your left you will see a tall radio tower which is a good landmark to always get back to camp just past that is the store which is off Highway 78 so when you ride from camp to the store you are actually coming in from behind. If you want to ride down the washes continue to the store and make a right turn washes and train tracks on your left camping on the right. Wish I was going because you really need to go to Boardsmanvile. Ask someone when your there to give you directions. its a bar in the middle of no where on the other side of the train tracks. They sell soda and Ice Cream too for the kids.

I just tried the link and it works. Don't camp at the "A". the first "78" you see on the left if the turn off and camp just south east of that

I SECOND the idea of the 5 point harnesses, thats what We run.

I think the "Flats' your talking about are a little farther down the Hwy than "Just past Gecko" but you should be fine with that. actually you will pass Osbourne Lookout before you get to the "Flats".

Good Luck, we will be in Ridgecrest this weekend, going to be warm there also!!
