Just took delivery of a 2008 Dodge 3500 Mega Cab. I debated long and hard over spending big $$ on the 6.7 Cummins after reading some negative post's on DPF and EGR problems but I believe the 08's are better than the 07.5's. Does anyone have any idea on what kind of MPG's I can expect? Anyone have any input on DPF and EGR issues with the 08's?

SRW. I have a Jayco 29 BHS at the moment but now that I have the truck, I bigger trailer will be in the cards in a few years. No plans on towing a fifth wheel and I don't think there is a TT out there that I wouldn't be able to tow with this rig.

I get 20-22 MPG running empty in signature rig. I have read the emission trucks are losing a couple MPG tho. MPG will depend a lot on your driving habits. Speed, fast starts, and stops will all reduce MPG. I get this MPG running 45-55 on back roads.
2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. The 07.5's like mine DID have a lot of early issues, but then along came an emissions recall (O2 sensor) in the fall of '07 that, combined with a complete software update, solved the vast majority of cases. I never had the issues others were reporting, but that just means I am lucky I guess.
Having said that, I have NEVER put any fuel other than ULSD in the tank. I HIGHLY suggest that when traveling unknown parts that you drive on the top half of the tank. LSD, off-road dyed, #1 and #2 blends, you name it and it seems that ULSD can often be hard to find. CAN you burn LSD? Sure! WILL you plug up your DPF with it?? Guaran-fricken-teed!!
ALSO, >LISTEN< to the owners manual which pratically BEGS you to not use ANY additives in the oil and fuel. They designed a special oil for this engine, and you must use it and ONLY it. The "lubricity" issues that are rampant on internet forums do NOT apply to us, so avoid fuel additives.
Unlike many others, I love this DPF technology; its why I got into diesels. No stink, smoke, and not much noise inside. Just treat your new Cummins to regular oil changes with the right stuff (Cummins logo on the Valvoline Premium Blue) and tell the AmsOil and Lucas salespeople "Thanks, but no thanks".
No, your 2008 isn't better than my (post-emissions recall) 2007.5; we're the same you and me. Us 2007.5 guys gineau-pigged the emissions for you. Your welcome!

We just returned from Texas, and was towing a 2009 Mobile Suites 36TK 3 (Heavy) and our Truck is a 2008 Chevy LTZ 3500, DRW. Our fuel mileage while towing was 10 to 11.9 mpg at 60 mph and used the Tow haul mode in heavy traffic and hills and with C/C. Highway mileage is between 16 to 18 mpg. We had a 2007 Chevy Classic 3500 and really didn't want to sell it because of the new emission system but I did. I'm really glad we did now, 2008 Chevy has a much better interior and after 4 of the old body styles we were begining to get tired of the same interior. I do think the DPF system is just a waste of money and Diesel fuel, and was just something to please the EPA wacko's. I'm using the same oil as the other Duramax's did and always carry a extra fuel filter. And have started to use Diesel clean it seems to help don't really know for sure, I normally don't use and type gadgets or snake oil things? Good Luck. GBY...

I get 11 towing 70MPH and less depending. 17.8 is best empty @ 70MPH.
7300 miles, and no issues. Love the truck, and you will too.

Howdy,
Last week trip to Maine towing average 11.6 mpg hand calc, this is averaging 70 mph. Truck is a beast and tows like crazy. Regular driving I average between 16 and 17 mpg. I have not had any issues with this truck in the 10K miles clocked to date. I bought the oil change package from the dealer so it gets changed every three months for the next seven years, price was too good to pass up. I too start looking for fuel at half a tank (I need a break around then anyway), so far I've not had any problem finding the ULSD, this trip every Pilot and T/A had it, and even the smaller places in the towns did too. The only place I've seen so far that didn't have it is the Turkey Hill station right near my home, my luck. enjoy your truck.

I have a 2008 quad cab. My empty mpg has improved from 16 when I got the truck to 20+ now at 20,000 miles. That's highway driving. Don't know what my overall is. Towing I get 11 to a bit over 13 depending on which trailer I'm towing and wind, etc. I get better mpg towing the bigger & heavier trailer because (I guess) it has a more aerodynamic front and propane tanks within the trailer body and a fully enclosed underbelly. All my figures are hand calculated because the overhead readout is quite "optimistic."
