99 per cent of the time, you don't need a 4X4. But boy, that 1 per cent.......... you are glad you have it. If I was still pulling a 5Ver, I would have a 4X4.

If I only need it one time a year is worth it for me. I'll always have a 4x4.

Oh boy - hot topic. I have driven into CG's when dry and getting back out when WET from rain. GLAD for 4x4 ability. My 5er is 13K# so it can get buried quick in mud. If you can afford it, do it. But weight is lower and economy is better without it, so that keeps this topic controversial.

The way dealers want to sell trucks these days, you should be able to get a REALLY good deal on a 4x4. Do you Need it? No. But.... it is really nice to have, and does increase resale value (if you are worried about that).

FWIW: IMHO: A 3/4 or 1 ton truck used for heavy duty towing duties isn't complete unless it's a 4X4. I'd never leave home without a 4X4 and our current 1 ton & previous 3/4 ton truck's have NEVER been off road. However, I've used 4 wheel drive several times over the years in various rainy and slippery situations when towing. When you need it, you need it. You can't use what you don't have. As for fuel economy, who buy's a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck used for towing for the great fuel mileage anyway??? Not that it's an issue for you but: If the minimal difference in fuel mileage between a 4X4 & 4X2 is worth having to consider, IMHO, buy a 1/2 ton truck to drive to work, forget about heavy duty towing duties, and stay home.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

4 X 4 is nice to have, but nobody has mentioned the single biggest difference between 4 wheel and 2 wheel drive. In a 4 x 4 when you're stuck you're really stuck.

A 4 X 4 pickup is very light in the rear end so throw some sand bags or some kind of weight in the bed for better traction.

I used to tow with a 4x2 3/4 ton and got stuck a few times when towing. I will never be without 4 wheel drive.
