Uma and Papa, doing the math is trickier than you might think. Not sure about you, but in Virginia, we get a reduction of the Personal Property tax on personal motor vehicles, such as the tow vehicle, but not so on trailers (whether TT or 5th wheels).

So that preferential treatment for cars makes the Personal Property Tax impact even worse for RVers (in those counties that do charge that tax)

Prince William County,Va. charged me person. prop. tax last year until I called to see what was up.I found out that when the registration was done they had my 5er listed as a trailer not a fifth wheel.Boats,Rv's(recreational vehicles) are tax free, trailers are not so after a trip to the county building they removed the charge.I also took the truck tags off my dually and have regular tags now which made the personal prop. tax on my truck cut in half.

GA is ridiculous as well. I'm all about paying my fair share, but the millage rate for RVs is quite high. My Teton's registration this year is just shy of $1600.

I am amazed at these taxes that people have to pay for RV's.

And I thought our taxes on our 2006 5th wheel in SC was horrible, $450.58! Then add the 05 Ford 250, taxes to a tune of $370.37....do the math.

Yeah but your sales tax was capped at $400 when you bought your unit new. In Ga. it is not capped so on a 30K trailer you pay about $2100! Taxes do even out from state to state to a degree like this, pay now or pay later.

Move to FL and save on the taxes. Only pay $43.00 for the 5er. Truck $36.00 and no state income tax. Look out for Home owners insurance they get you.

How did you get by paying only $36.00 for a 1 ton truck, my F350 is over $100.00 for the tags ????. May be it depends on the county.

So I am moving from South Florida to Georgia, so should I just bend over now?

I have a car, a truck and a fifth wheel!
Guess in lieu of a mortgage payment I gotta get a personal property tax loan!

Ah dang, just when I thought I was retiring!

We pay property taxes on tagged vehicles in our County of NC.
based on local tax rate. My county is lower than the one on each side of us, the county above is almost nothing and that county is twice our size but 3/4 of it is NC Game lands.
I paid almost $3 on my 12 year old utility trailer this year.
Plus you pay higher license plate fees the last two years. then we pay one of the southeasts highest state fuel tax fees. Anything with license plates gets its own tax bill from the county you live in. Then you have to claim the 4wheelers, boats, planes, etc on your home property taxes. then you get that bill.
As of OCT 1st this year they are tying the license plates and taxes to your vehicle inspection fee(OH!! another tax I forgot). PLus $40.00 for OBD inspection, luckly me I have a a diesel so I dont have an OBD inspection but still pay this hidden tax so I can buy my weighted tags, which runs MORE than regular tag prices, these are based the weights you have listed. mine is around $90 a year NOW.
Hope this makes your day..
