Hi all....

I'm going to make a turning circle in our yard, so I don't have to keep backing the TT in through a small gate. Problem is, I'm "math challenged"!

What does the radius of the circle have to be to permit a safe turn for the rig? It's a Jayco 25RKS and a F150 Super Crew.... probably about 45 feet in total length.

There is some formula with maximum degree of turn relating to the diameter of the circle, .... or in english, how tight can I turn the sucker without breaking anything?

Thanks!

Math challenged also.... take it to a large parking lot with a buddy and do your confortable circle. Measure it.

WAY too many variables to plug into a simple formula. I agree with JFG, it's far easier to just get the number from a real-world test than from a theoretical formula.

Variables include (but probably not limited to):

turning radius of vehicle
wheelbase of vehicle
hitch distance from rear axle
length of trailer (hitch to bumper)
overhand of trailer bumper behind trailer axle
angles associated with hitch

I had a yard that was 90' wide and I could just barley turn around our (then) 19' TT. I like the parking lot idea.

Here you go. Simple as pie.

(x2 + p + y)2 = px2 - qx - r + p2 + 2y(x2 + p) + y2
= (p + 2y)x2 - qx + (p2 - r + 2py + y2)

The diameter should be the total length of the TV and TT. JMHO

When you make your circle remove your trunion bars or you may have one pop out. I am at a state park now and needed to make a u-turn,instead of going to a larger area I tried in a spot that was just too tight and one of the bars came out. I didn't know until I started unhooking. I unhooked and went looking for it and there it was right in that spot. Glad I got it back and learned my lesson!
