CAUTION!!!!
If you smell gas inside the Motorhome you have a leak somewhere!
This is not something to risk your life over. Get a spray bottle and some bubbles for kids and go around spraying every fitting and gas line you can find. This will help isolate down a potential leak area.
Good Luck in the search.

Cool Mike wrote: Are you smelling LP Gas or burned stack gas? You should not smell any unburned gas, but some times the wind can bring in a little stack gas, that's LP Gas that's been burned, like off the cook top.
But smelling unburned LP Gas is not good, and you should find the problem or have it found and repaired ASAP.
You got the answer to not wanting to smell Ammonia around an RV (Absorption type refrigerator), it means big repair bills or replacement. But that doesn't seam to be your problem, but dont forget that. If it work good on gas, the electric heating element is likely bad, its sort of common. But I wouldn't worry about it as long as it works good on gas, that's all we use is gas.
Cool Mike, it has been windy the past few days. That has to be what it is (burned stack gas). It is great running it on LP gas as the fridge works great using it.

I did not want to create another thread. I noticed in the dial of the fridge of my 1976 motorhome that it has a 12V option along with the Gas and Electric for the fridge.
Does the 12V run on the power converter? If so, how long? the booklet I have says it is a 30amp converter.
I did a search concerning 12V fridge but did not have answers to my questions of what I saw. Thanks,

If you have a three way refrigerator gas, 120V AC and 12V DC, it will run off your converter when your plugged in, and your battery when your not, but will drain the battery rather fast, it could draw 20 + Amps of 12V. Its almost like having your parking lights on.
Your much better off running it on gas, and forgetting about the 12V option. Most newer units dont even have the 12V option, they just use 12V to run the electronic controls and either gas or 120V AC for the heat source.
