Hi, What would it cost to tow a motorhome like a 32 Allegro or this Bluebird Bus? Someone told me it would cost about 100.00 an hour.

Thanks, Robert

There is usually a flat or standard fee when you call for a tow. This fee could be $ 100 to hook you up and tow you a given distance, lets say 5 miles. From that point on there is usually a set dollar fee for any additional mile in tow. I have never seen any hourly rate when towing, thus, the bigger you are, the more you pay.

Guy with a heavy wrecker service west of Atlanta (they pick up the coach from the front wheels) told me they did not hook up for less than $600. Milage and time comes on top of that. We were discussing what Freightliner had to pay to tow our coach to a Freightliner shop instead of sending a mechanic to the coach with a new belt and alternator.

Towing my 40' motorhome 90 miles cost $650 and Coach Net paid the entire bill. A friend had his 38' motorhome towed 150 miles (he was in the boonies) and it cost $950 which CAT paid under warranty.

I got about the same response here, from the only company with equipment large enough to tow our MH, who by the way told me he refuses to tow for either AAA or GS, because of low pay and slow payments. His base rate is $500 to respond within 50 miles and then charges an hourly rate for all hours, after the 1st hour on scene and a mileage rate for all miles, until back at the garage, after the 1st 50 miles of tow. It is very easy to have a $1000+ tow bill. Let's say we broke down 50 miles north of here, the closest appropiate facility would be 150 miles south of the point of breakdown. Did you see all those $$$$$$ signs as he was towing you to the closest appropiate facility I did, that's why I have CN ERS.

We had a fuel pump failure about 125 miles out of Whitehorse, Yukon. The flatbed had @ a 10 hour round trip and charged 1950 dollars Canadian. Fortunately Cummins paid the complete bill. My advice is have a good warranty or road service plan (read the fine print).

GOOD SAM ERS! Many people here love to BASH GS, but I've had very good luck with them. First tow - overheated brake caliper - they towed it from MY HOME to a garage I chose (not the closest!) about 25 miles away. Second - a wrecker was sent 40 miles to fix my locked steering column - no tow necesary. Third - a blowout - a wrecker came to me and changed to my spare (My MH is so "OLD", it has a spare!) - the bill was $290. Fourth - the following day, a tow of 15 miles after it was discovered the blowout had wrecked my brakes - charge was $350. Each time, I asked the tow truck driver about GS - each said they paid well and quickly! After all that, I was worried I might get cancelled - GS assured me they had NO LIMIT for the number of calls - they are only concerned if someone is trying to rip them off. Nice!

My only other tow was 30 miles - private pay - $550.

Not bashing anyone, just saying what the owner of the largest recovery/towing company in this area, told me. He also will not tow for many insurance companies for the same reason. His equipment is very modern and he does not lack for business.
