Hi,

I have some Ozark Trail camping gear from Wal-Mart. I have never heard of Ozark Trail before. Our tent is made by Ozark Trail and holds up good. Usually, if Wal-Mart makes it, it caries the Wal-Mart name and logo, whereas the Ozark Trail products are marketed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Who makes this brand of equipment?

We've used some of the Ozark Trail gear and it is pretty decent for light usage. I have no idea who makes their gear.

I did a quick Google, and found that basically, Walmarts sells these products as Ozark Trails, and they are made by different mfgrs. Even the tents might have 3-4 different makers. One that I saw mentioned was NorthPole, though I've never heard of them before either?

I guess to get the best prices, Walmart contracts out to various equipment makers, and they make what Walmart wants....and it's sold under the Ozark Trails nametag.

That is what I found when I did a google search before I posted the thread. I didn't find the various propane accessories, such as the propane tree or the cooking/eating utensils. I guess they would be made by a major mfg. like Solo or Dixie (plastic ware).

I have several ozark trail pieces of equipment and all of it has held up very nicely. Have a stove, tent, dining canopy, and all have lasted well. I've used the tent since '02 on several camping trips with no problems at all. Couldn't be happier. I think mine is an 8x8 but I doubt they still sell the same one since its over 6 years old.

I too have several Ozark Trail items (tent, screenhouse, air mattress and other). They have held up well. Much of how well an item performs is in how it's cared for.

I have had a Ozark Trail Tent the first time we used it the zipper broke. I have a screenhouse for a few years, and yes the zipper broke in it the 2nd time I used it, but we use it anyway.

I bought an Ozark Trail 10 x 13 tent a few months ago and for $49 it held up fairly decent in a rainstorm with some leakage around the zippers. I did seal the seams and spray on some waterproofing on the tent. The main problem that I have with the Ozark Trail tents is all of the mesh. You could not tell from the pictures on the box but the entire back and side walls were mesh. We camped in it on Mothers Day weekend with the Cub Scouts and could not believe how much you could feel the wind come through. And it wasn't very cool that night either.

Another thing was that the rainfly just barely came down over the mesh and I would think that a driving rain would push water underneath the fly and through the mesh. It would be OK for a summer tent but I needed a 3 season tent.

Ozark Trail is a private label brand of Walmart. WM either contracts directly with manufacturers, typically in China to produce these products to their own specs, or buy them through unknown marketing companies who design the products, and in turn, have them manufactured at third party plants (again, typically in China). Often times, these products are produced in the same plants as well known branded products.

Virtually every retailer (Sears, WM, Dicks, etc) has its own Private Label brand(s).

Ozark Trail is certainly a value brand. I wouldn't expect their equipment to hold up or perform like much more expensive, higher end brands over the long haul, but for occasional camping in relatively decent weather, its a good value. I wouldn't buy it for my son's scout troop which camps year round in all kinds of weather, but if you go family camping a couple of times a summer and don't want to spend a lot, its probably fine.

I've had about a 50/50 success rate with Ozark Trail items. Some of them have been fine, others have fallen apart at the touch of a feather. If you're not subjecting them to heavy use, you'll probably be fine.

I can't speak to the quality of their tents since I've never purchased one. But price tags aren't everything in tents, either. The absolute worst tent I've ever had the misfortune of spending a rainy night in was a Eureka! And I guarantee that it cost more than a comparably sized Ozark Trail tent, yet it failed spectacularly.

Edit: I went and checked out their tents online just now, and I will say that their rainflys don't really impress me very much. I like a rainfly that will kiss the ground and give me FULL coverage.
