I've always said the roads are full of "maniacs" and "morons"
A "moron" is anyone driving slower than I want to drive...
A "maniac" is anyone driving faster than I want to...
I've been putting up with "maniacs" and "morons" all my life, although I've noticed that when I'm driving the RV there seems to be more maniacs on the road than when I'm driving the car.
All that having been said, it only takes a little patience to wait for a chance to pass that moron in front of you. If you do the math, you'll find that the time "saved" by driving faster is lost at the other end in additional refueling, as well as additional rest time required to overcome the stress associated with driving faster
(and if you don't think you're more stressed after a day of driving 65-70mph versus 55, check with your co-pilot)

If I'm on a two lane road, going the speed limit with my truck and trailer, that's what I'm going to do. I will not pull over for you, but I'll be the 1st into the right hand lane on the passing area. On the freeway, I stay right except to pass, which isn't often, because I tow at 57 MPH.

About ten years ago i was pulling a 30' construction trailer on a 2 lane couty road, speed limit 45 mph. A couple of girls in a sports car went around me like i was standing still a flew over the horizon. 50 miles later on a road with no gas stations or stores i pulled up 1 car behind them at the first stop sign. Decided then that hurrying doesn't get you anyhere faster except maybe dead.
If you don't like me going speed limit or a little slower, most states have the Highway Patrol number posted along the road, feel free to report me for slowing you down under the limit. Make sure you give them your name and license # too, you'll probably get a reward.

Rosehill wrote: It seems pretty simple to me. My trailer and van are happiest at 60. I do a LOT of towing on two lane highways. I do tend to collect traffic at times. If I can SAFELY pull over and let them pass, I will. If I cannot safely pull over, then they can either pass me, or stay back there until I find a safe place. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, is going to force me to speed out of my comfort zone, and the comfort (read safety zone) of my rig. I can pay a ticket, no amount of money will fix dead or injured because I tried to get out of the way when I should have stayed put. I have towed many miles in my great state, not once have I gotten a ticket for impeding traffic. But I have seen more than one "in a hurry" person get pulled over, and ticketed for following too closely.
AMEN, and "(and if you don't think you're more stressed after a day of driving 65-70mph versus 55, check with your co-pilot) " is so true, when I first got a motorhome I challenged the hills, pedal to the metal, etc. when I started towing a toad limited to 50-55 mph and started driving that, it was so much more relaxing. whenever I came up to a "slow speed ahead" sign I did not have to change a thing.

Fortunately the law disagrees with you.

If you are driving 10 or more MPH below the speed limit and holding up traffic you are subject to a ticket in Texas. So you and your 100K stuff have been advised. This is NOT a rumor. Ask my brother in law.

It is not mandatory, some people just do this as a courtesy. It is not

I think you keep believing that you are pulling a "gotcha" on me or something, like I don't know what the law says even though I posted it for you pages ago.
That answer only implies that you are someone who refuses to be courteous because you are "special". You do know that anger management therapy is available for your condition, right?

Excuse me, this Texas talk started as follows:

That is the law here. If you don't like it, stay in Yankee land!

Thanks for posting that RetiredbutWorking. That is the way we drive there and yes, I do pull our expensive rig and toad over onto the wide shoulder so others can pass, when they come up behind. Texas DOT normally keep the shoulders very clean.
================================================================
And "If you don't like it, stay in Yankee land" is a courteous statement? Since it was claimed that it was the law here, I asked the State DOT if it was and when I got a response, posted it.
and if there is a "gotcha" involved, it would be with RetiredbutWorking, not with you.

Been there, done that. Still run 65 in the bus, 70-80 in the Magnum or Caddy. I've done many 12-hour days driving both...no stress. I'd rather do 12 hours on the highway running 80 than half an hour in heavy traffic.

While I agree that going slower does save fuel, I don't believe that we have the right to block others on a mountain two lane road for miles and miles. It causes others to drive in unsafe ways and those who drive so slow should periodically pull off and allow others to drive at a reasonable speed. What is the fair answer? I have slowed down too, but hope I don't cause non RV'er to be angry and cause problems for us.
Hi Gene....that MH was probably me. Sorry if I held you up, but whenever I saw a pullout, there was no way I could slow down fast enough to turn off the road safely without finding all the stuff I have in my cabinets out in the middle of the floor or my lap. I guess I could have driven slower so I could safely make the turn outs, but I think that probably would have upset you even more so.
I did notice tho, that there were many places for you to pass me, but for reasons only known to you, you decided not to... and of course that just makes it more difficult for the people behind you to get around both you and me. Then again, if you weren't driving so close to my toad's back bumper, maybe you could have seen the passing areas I'm referring to.
Anyway, have a great day and hope to see you behind me again some day.
