While returning from Yellowstone Park this week with our TT, we were blocked by a motor home who decided that we all should be forced to go 50 to 55 mph in a 65 zone. While I agree that going slower does save fuel, I don't believe that we have the right to block others on a mountain two lane road for miles and miles. It causes others to drive in unsafe ways and those who drive so slow should periodically pull off and allow others to drive at a reasonable speed. What is the fair answer? I have slowed down too, but hope I don't cause non RV'er to be angry and cause problems for us.

Hi Gene....that MH was probably me. Sorry if I held you up, but whenever I saw a pullout, there was no way I could slow down fast enough to turn off the road safely without finding all the stuff I have in my cabinets out in the middle of the floor or my lap. I guess I could have driven slower so I could safely make the turn outs, but I think that probably would have upset you even more so.

I did notice tho, that there were many places for you to pass me, but for reasons only known to you, you decided not to... and of course that just makes it more difficult for the people behind you to get around both you and me. Then again, if you weren't driving so close to my toad's back bumper, maybe you could have seen the passing areas I'm referring to.

Anyway, have a great day and hope to see you behind me again some day.

Ron

Can't agree with the "slow enough to obstruct traffic is too slow" statement. If that's the case, I'm always too slow at 55-57 MPH and still would be too slow even if I speeded up to the speed limit because most vehicles are exceeding the speed limit. Also, that would be others determining my speed instead of me driving the speed I am comfortable with. RV's by their very nature obstruct traffic to some degree. So do bicycles, yet they have every right to be there.

bicycles do NOT have a right to be on any road, interstate, etc. that has a minimal speed limit.

You need to come out west more often. This was recently hashed out on another thread. Bicycles are legal on the freeway where there isn't an alternative route, as is often the case in the mountain west.

The portions of the freeways where bicycles are allowed is clearly marked.

so you are claiming that on a road that has a minimum speed limit, that one can ride a bicycle if you can't keep up with that limit?
Now I am not talking about a very brief movement over to the driving lane from a marked bike lane on the side of the road, when one comes to a short bridge, etc.

I dont care if your drive 15 over the limit if you are obstruckting traffic you are either in the wrong lane or driving tooooooooooo slow.

hpk

If a driver is in the passing lane and going 15 over, that driver may be obstructing someone wanting to go 20 over. According to the LAW they are both going too fast not "tooooooooooo slow".

Read it and see what we are talking about Bumpy. Here is the law from one state and I can post others if you want to see them. Bikes can be ridden on the Interstate hiway in many places.

Agree! This weekend on I95 I was traveling at a speed I am comforable with 60 and if you don't like it go around. That is what a number of others did. I sware that I saw more than 30 vehicals going faster than 90mph and there is no way I am going to do that in a MH. If your talking about speeding in the mountains or back roads, then I will slow down and watch, If your in that big a hurry to die go for it!

Absolutely nothing in that link said it was legal and proper to ride a bicycle in the middle of an interstate highway that had a minimum speed limit that could not be maintained by a bicycle. Sort of like the "mandatory driving on the shoulder issue" in Texas.

But yes, please research the issue and post a copy of the law if it states that " it is legal to not maintain the minimum speed limit if you are on a moped, bicycle, etc."
