In my dealings with Les SCHWAB, I've had nothing but excellent service. I recommend them to everyone and agree with what they told you. If you don't agree with them go elsewhere.
I also trade with LS for the above reason and have found them to be nothing but honest. As far as franchise stores, I have never seen one, even though there may be one somewhere. All I know of are company stores and operate under a very strict code and inspection program. LS just installed Toyo tires on my toad and they honored a quote that was over 120 days old and the Toyo tires had had a price increase in those 120 days. That speaks volumes of the company ethics in my mind.

Check with your local Sams club and see what their policy is. Someone on this blog said that they do not do class A's but when I was there last week they had 22.5 tires there. So at least here in Palmdale Calif they do tires on clsaa A's.

So let me get this right....

If I buy a BRAND NEW pair of tires for my front (or back) wheels at a shop that does such a thing, these other shops will not replace BALD tires on the other axle because I'm not buying FOUR tires?

That's rough. Thank goodness they're not doing that up here.

Do shops down there replace front or rear brakes if your not getting all four done? Shocks? Mag wheels?

Not being a smartass, honest. I'm just truly intrigued!

It will not be long until your tires will be checked for the date code also. The tire mfg's are trying to get all tires replaced regardless of tread at 5-7 year intervals. They will be checked for state inspections and at tire stores.
It is no wonder that some of these places get away with what they do when you read some of the replies to this topic.

I know you have Wal-Mart and Costco up there so maybe comparing them would be wise too.
They don't do Class As.

Les Schwab just did brakes on my toad and though they checked the brakes on both axles, they only did the pair that needed the work, not both. Les Schwab is a very honest dealer, not a swindler.

Around here Costco and Sam's Club will sell you 22.5 tires, but will NOT mount them.

We have always had very good, honest service from Les Schwab for many years.
I for one would not hesitate to deal with them in the future.
My 1 ton D/A will need tires before the winter and that is where I will be taking the truck.

Let me tell you the difference between tire stores and the ones who would swindle you.

Les Swab told you UP FRONT, before you drove to the shop, what their policy was

A swindler would have put it up on the hoist first

Now; As it happens I do not agree with their expressed policy and thus likely won't go there to get a tire (I did go to Belle Tire in Redford, MI (only selected Belle Tires can service my coach) and go to one in Livonia with my towed (Redford can't do toweds, only big rigs) Some (Enterprise Drive, I think in Allen Park w/o checking my map (One of those places where all 5 tires on my car can be in different cities.. FIVE? you say. yes, rf-rr-lf-lr and spare!)

They can do both

People are sue happy and If I was in that position I would do the same as they are doing. If you don't like it you can go to brand X and get your tires. I've had good results from LS and I have many friends that work there and I value their honesty and judgement when it comes to my tires.

What they sell you, is all they should have to worry about and it's not the same as putting mud doggers on the front and not on the rear as in the case of some passenger cars. Now, Sam's wouldn't put regular tires on a car that called for the the 130mph type in the book, but ..TIRES PLUS.. did, so it must not be a Federal or State Law thingy.
I've come to the conclusion, that if I don't like doing business with someone, for whatever reason, then I'm going somewhere else, as I would do in the case of the OP and not giving them the satisfaction of selling me anything. I like hiring and firing at will, anyway. Keeps people on their toes to try harder.
