We offer pet washing & grooming. At first I was trying to find another way of making money on the road but think we should just stick with what we know.

We have all our equipment and are able to carry it with us. Is there a need? If you had someone to wash & groom your pet while on the road would you take advantage of it?

Thank you for responding!

That would be nice. We've never had that choice before. We usually stay in one area for 3-5 months so we establish with a groomer in the area. If you were in the same park with us AND we knew you were there, that would be handy. If you were in another nearby park, I'm not sure we would have any way of knowing that you were in our area. Good luck. Maybe you've hit on a good way to pick up some change while traveling.

It would be a fantastic asset in our park. However....there is a liability issue. I had a gal that wanted to "open up shop" in the park as a hairdresser. She was very talented and everyone wanted to use her services. The owner of the park had a major problem with the liability issues. We were unable to allow her to set up business.

Where we are NOW, we have a similar situation, but we told her to keep it between her and her clients. We are "out of the loop". She has a ton of clients. We do not endorse her openly. (we kind of endorse her on the side).

If we had someone such as yourself, you would do a bang up business here in our park. (everyone has a dog), but it may have to be done "on the sly".

I think it would be a great idea!! I couldn't use you because Katie is just too nervous for strangers to handle and Maggie is so small I can wash her under the faucet but I would if I could! You might consider letting owners wash thier dogs in a case like Katie's. And charge a modest fee, of course!!

Find some way to let the residents know of your work. I guarantee you will be swamped with work. My dog just barked when I read this to him and he wants a bath and tow nail clip. Stop wagging that darn tail, they aint here yet!

Yes, others will take advantage of it. Id recommend that you have some pictures of your work, so clients will know what to expect. My DW was a Professional Groomer for over 35 years. Groomed all breeds and show dogs. Built quite a reputation. People used to come back that had move to other towns driving 100+ miles to have her do their pets.

Groomers in the City called her "The Cat Lady" because she had no problems with all the cats that they could not even touch. The way she worked reminds me of the "Dog Whisperer" on National Geo channel....

When she retired, she asked about bringing her equipment. I suggested she sell it, for she was supposed to be finished with working. So she does not groom any longer. BUT, every time someone finds out she has been grooming that long, they ask if she would do their dog. Figured that would happen, and she had already worked very hard for so long, she should stop. The average person has no idea how hard groomers work. Most would never do it for the money, only because they love animals.

If you posted a notice on a Bulletin Board in the campgrounds, bet you would get some work. It would probably depend on where the campground is, how much you business you would get. Some campgrounds might allow a sign in the window of your RV, others would not.

She also used to go to peoples homes to groom dogs. Did no bathing, but used lots of Mr Groom, grooming powder to brush the dogs out. It made even white dogs look as if they had a bath. Carried a folding table with a drawer for her equipment, and a vacuum attached to the clipper, to keep from making a mess with the hair, and it also removed the powder. She put ads in local free papers, like those in supermarkets, within six months she had so many clients, had to stop all advertising..

From a campground owner: "Liability Issue"?...."out of the loop"?
"on the sly"?

YOU are putting your employer AT RISK. As an employee of the park, you are a representative of that park and can be held liable as well should ANYTHING, (and do I mean anything). If you are not an employee, you are free to recommend anyone or anything without adverse consequenses. However, the clients may chose to involve you in a legal suit should anything happen to their pet because you recommended the business.

Just my POV. Thanks for listening.

As full timers we are looking for a dog groomer ever 4 - 5 weeks. It would be great to have one right in the campground. I think that could be a fantastic business, a LOT of people travel with pets.
Good luck,
Fred
