Whatcha think? I've got today to decide.
I really doubt it's that bad. I assume you have your money in some bank(s), and no more than $100,000 in any one account. If so, the Feds and FDIC won't let you lose it.
Despite all the scary stories, the high for the Dow was ~14,000 and is now at ~11,000, NOT ZERO. We still have a long way before all access to money is gone. I predict we won't get there.

How government can run out of money? Look at the thread about print shops working overtime.

WAMU used to be one of the finest financial institutions in the country. Easy and reliable to deal with, all of that changed in 02, when the push started for "stated income loans", much higher fees were generated which caused the powers to be to salivate.

Tough call and I am afraid only you can make that decision.
I am bias of course since I live in Texas, but I am not leaving here. I put off several projects for now, camper shopping, cruise planning, another major remodel ( kitchen and washroom) . Right now I am putting my cash reserves where I can access them and I know where my gold is stashed.
personally I fell like we are not hearing the whole story yet.. but feel like in say a week, we should have a better idea. What is it in
Arkansas that requires your attention that you can't do on the phone or some other way?
Do you have a good place for your 5'er? if not drop me a message, may have an cheap, safe offer for you.
What is in Arkasas? A 5 bedroom, 3 bath house on 3 acres. It's for sale and we need to go ck. on it and do some cleanup after Hurricane Ike. I'm transitioning back to Texas (I'm originally from Texas) and WILL live here. But we have assets in Arkansas that need our attention. PM me your info. regarding what you're referring to on the cheap, safe offer. Thanks!

I'm just glad something happened. I've been doing all my banking with WaMu ever since US Bank became the "How can we screw you today" bank.

Well I'll play (great fall day outside and I'm stuck in the office for one more week before heading south) anyway, check out the Invisible Hand.
The sky isn't falling, just a correction as they say. Now if you want a crisis lets talk about SS and Medicare. Where are all these "good doer's" on these topics.

Take a look at some of your stock companies, Ameritrade has held up a very large amount of money of mine from a sweep account, and tells me that the fund is not going to return my money for a while and hasn't paid from this fund any money after Sept. 15. They foze the money. Hello

That would be great!
It would make me feel better if those responsible for the need to spend 700 billion in taxpayers funds had their assets seized, and some of them were put in jail. However, I doubt it will happen.

Being from Wa, I loved Wash. Mutual and have purchased stock in it thru the years. I would never have believed it could go down the tube! If the government keeps bailing out troubled companies of all kinds by printing money, we will have great inflation. I read once, somewhere, that historically democracies have lasted about 250 years. Once people learn that they can vote themselves benefits, the end is in sight. Hope sanity prevails!
