Talking with a wholesaler friend in the truck bussiness, I just learned that the diesel's are off by $10,000, he says take low blue book and take $10,000 off that and that is what they buy them for now.

It depends on WHERE he is in business, of course, but I think he is just making conversation. I don't see any sign of that at the new or used dealers around here.
As for depreciation, ALL new vehicles do that during the first year of use. Heck, some do it as soon as you sign the papers and drive off the lot!

It's simple math. The new Chevy's are being sold at employee cost and then there is a $5000 rebate on top of that. Add them together and it is about $10000 off MSRP. Do you not think that this kind of effects the price of a 1 or 2 year old truck?

GASSER Rams are advertised for 40% off and are GOING OFF THE LOT AT 50% off. How much less do you think a two month old one is?

Chevy and Ford gassers have to stay close so, as above, all used vehicles drop accordingly. Not a surprise that diesels would not be immune from the effect.

Its mainly because of fuel prices. Theres a lot of people who used these trucks as daily drivers and commuter vehicles. After discovering they didnt like spending $150+ per tank to haul air back and fourth to work they unloaded the trucks for a more effecient vehicle, thus flooding the market with used trucks.

Its not just diesels either. The same thing happened to the large SUV market. You can get used Tahoes and Suburbans very cheap right now.

For one you are comparing wholesale pricing to retail pricing. A dealer always buys at wholesale - nowhere near what you pay when you buy. Like comparing Apples to Oranges.

Gassers are a bit more impacted by this due to fuel pricing and poor mileage. I wish I had waited till now to buy my 2006 CTD RAM. But it gets 22-24 MPG on the highway -- good as many cars. Last trip I took with it I had my Quad in the bed and was pulling a utility trailer with an 850# Harley in it and by keeping the speed down to 60MPH I got 20-22 MPG over the whole 500 miles. Not bad for close to 10,000#. I ain't complaining.
