We have a 2005 Ford F250 with Power Stroke 6.0L turboe diesel. I am in the early research stages of picking a Banks system. The goal will primarily be increassed MPG with secondary goal being increased towing power for when and if we ever get rid of "The Old Gal" and move to a 5th wheel.

I also do not have an unlimited budget for this.

Looking at the Banks web site, it looks like the Power Pack system is a good candidate.

What y'all think?

As you boost engine power you run the risk of damaging other components. If you just have to boost it up make sure you add an exhaust temperature gauge. The chips play with timing of fuel delivery, and amount of fuel delivered. Careful of the high flow air filters, usually they allow more dirt into the engine. The drive train parts on your truck are all rated for the stock engine output. The more you research this I suspect the less likely you are to mod your engine.

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. Id suggest you pay a visit to here. http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/ You will learn lots about mods. Your transmission remains the 'weakest link' and need to watch those temps too.

There are some pretty nice kits that include several mods if you can afford the expense all at once.

As Rvndave suggest, gauges then mods...just in case. I was amazed how the Pyro temp would climb like a tach when you get on it!

A good tuner makes a big difference. Got mine from DP-Tuners. Trip to Florida 2 weeks ago 1801 miles avg 11.48 mpg pulling 30' SunnyBrook. I ran the 80 HP tune all the way.

As far as 6.0 tuners go, Banks if relatively safe. Their stuff is slightly overpriced usually but very well engineered. Most of their packages also come with gauges. Coolant temp, exhaust gas temp and transmission temp are the 3 that I like to see. Engine oil temp is one of the most overlooked on a 6.0 powerstroke. They are prone to EGR cooler/oil cooler failure and the oil temp is one of the first indicators of a problem.

The 5R110 transmission in these trucks is usually extremely reliable up to and beyond 500 rear wheel horsepower as long as you keep it cool. The 6.0 trans cooler is pretty efficient but it doesn't hurt to add a higher capacity pan like a PML or Mag Hytech to help keep the temps down. With the 5R110 shift tuning is the key to their survival. The factory programming shifts very smooth but is less than desirable for longevity.

Since you seem favor Gale Banks Engineering, why not give them a call and explain your needs and expectations? I know they have some very helpful people that can point you in the right direction.

There's you answer!!
I put the Power Pack on our ISC and it made a huge difference, more than just the peak HP and torque shows.
I now have more torque from 1200 (minimum they test at) to 2150 (2200 is governed max) rpm than the stock engine made at peak. That makes it much nicer to drive as it doesn't need to downshift as often.
The one thing about the Banks KIT is just that, it's all designed and built to work together without overstressing any one component.
