Sorry...brainfart. Off on the year range... LBZ is the better right out of the box, but there are the parts to "convert" the LLY to some of the LBZ parts to eliminate the overheating issue some have had.

So, even though there's a overall bad reputation on the Ford 6.0L diesel, IF I still wanted to buy one, which years were/are the least problematic? Here's the thing; I LOVE the chassis and the bed length(6.75ft) is perfect for my needs. I see TONS of them on the road everyday, so they can't all suck. If the 2003-2004.5 6.0L powerstrokes are the worst, are the 2005-6 ones "better" or are they still not good? I probably won't be able to afford a brand new truck, so the 6.4L is out and I don't want one old enough to still have the 7.3L.

I've read that the 05's and 06's were much better. If I were buying one, I would insist to speak to the previous owner about the truck. Just another opinion and worth no more than that of anyone else, but if a truck had one owner and that person assured me he had no trouble with it, I would certainly consider it.

03/04 worst.. Seen many problems with the newer also...... I would be very wary of a a used 6.0 especially on a GM/Dodge lot..
The ford truck is the best truck other than that motor...Loved mine...I would definetaly run the oasis report.... There was a guy looking at a newer 6.0 few weeks back, he come to find out it was a lemmon....I would also get a GOOD warranty!!!!

Specifically, would you rather get a 2006 F250 diesel with 81K on it or a 2005 F250 diesel with 33K on it? Yes, the 06 is a good bit cheaper.

niether,I have had too much experience with them motors.... but the lower mile one I would get......Run the oasis report on either, if they have been worked on go away...the 06 wont be any better, or more reliable than the 05..I know the Gm website of dieselplace.com there are some on there that can run the vin for you to see what has been done.....Try dieselstop.com and see if someone can do it for the fords......been some time since i have been on there.....
