No reason you can't have both porch lights and scare lights.. Just make sure the switches are clearly labeled
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

It seems from your opinions that the porch light will be the better way to go for me. I don't need to consider other campers because there are none where I camp in the desert. I'm not concerned about bad guys either. This trailer is only 12' long and I'm making it a mini- toyhauler for just me when the wife doesn't want to go. I don't want to drag the TH for one person. I sometimes go riding with my Son and his buddies so the wife doesn't want to go on a "guy" trip. I'm getting all the material together so when it cools down enough to work on it I can get it finished in time for camping. It's still 105* "Autumn" weather here in Az, a.k.a. Hellsville..... I thank you all.....

You know. Since you will be in the boonies, and have no electric hookup. You could install a lantern hanger off the side of the mini toy hauler. A propane lantern will light up the world, and when you are done setting up. You can turn it down to the level of light you preferr for sitting around the fire. Would also eliminate the need for a generator. You could sit there in the quiet of the night.

That's exactly what I did when we camped in a Popup. I don't know about the propane lanterns but the fueled ones I had weren't that quiet. They make a fairly loud hiss. We don't usually leave a light on but do while we're having a fireside supper. I will have a generator built in for the micro-wave and I can top off the battery the next morning while making coffee in the electric pot. We like quiet.... It's comforting to read about folks winterizing their rigs because that means it's almost time to pull mine out from it's parked place in the back yard and get it ready to go...

Jerrybo66 wrote: I want to put a side light on a cargo trailer I'm outfitting for hauling an ATV. Does anyone who has the "scare lights" think they are too bright for normal use. I would like the extra light for any around camp chores but wouldn't want something that would be glaring bright for sitting around a fire. The standard porch lights that we have on the toy hauler are just about right for our general night time use. Any opinions are appreciated.
Jerry.
The "scare lights" usually come with a # 1295 bulb, which is bright but very hard to find. NAPA has them for over $5 each. I ordered 15 of them on line and paid just over $2 each incl s&h. The 1295's are a 35 watt bulb, you can substitute other lower wattage, easier to find and cheaper bulbs. I did that for a while till I got the correct ones. No harm in using lower wattage bulbs if you want.

The lower the light, the less the hiss. Low light, almost no sound at all.
