We are volunteering at Garner and in no are representing the state parks. This is our first time volunteering in a state park and find it very interesting. All of the rangers are very easy going and friendly. It appears they have been 'burned' by volunteers before and are not interested in starting out with any long-term commitment. If you would like to ride a mower or other jobs for 24 hrs/wk and are in the area you might stop and talk to them. I’m not sure it would be worthwhile if you have to drive far to get here. Full hook ups and free laundry.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying? ("representing the state parks") We have not spent time at Garner but we have on several occasions volunteered at other Texas parks and each has been a great experience. I would recommend any state park in Texas.
Good travelin! ........Kirk

Poor wording and I left a 't' off. We are not representives of the park. I was just trying to say it would be a great place to volunteer if you are in the area.

Interesting. We voluteered at Garner 3 years ago. The manger then has now retired and we've heard from some others that there have been a few positive changes. Garner is a far drive from any real shopping (Uvalde is what 40 miles away) but there were a couple of good eateries in the town just north of the park. We painted the shelters and put in new fire-rings. We always put in more hours than required - nothing much else to do. Is Ruby still there??
