Hi all, My hubby & I will be fulltimers come March 2009. This past year we have been able to cut $40.00 per moth off our hydro bill by just changing to energy light bulbs. Does anyone know if there are energy bulbs for rv's. I can't seem to get an answer to this question. Thanks Carol

Here are a few LED lights. But I doubt the savings in an RV will come close to your house savings.

For the 12 volt bulbs in most of the RV fixtures, there are no compact flourescent bulbs available. You can buy LED bulbs with varying degrees of success. You will fnd, however, that your electric consumption for lighting in the RV will be so small as not to be a concern. You can use the compact flourescent bulbs in any 120 volt fixture in the RV.

I replaced two 10 watt halogen bulbs with LED lights claimed to be the equivalent of a 15 watt halogen bulb. My opinion is that they are maybe half the brightness of the 10 watt halogens. My original plan was to convert to LED light, but after seeing them in action I'm sticking with the halogens until the LEDs get better.

$40 a MONTH on "hydro" with light bulbs? Wow.. you must either use a heck of a lot of light or have really expensive electricity.

LED's will help, especially if you have a lot of high consuming fixtures using halogens. Their drawback is the high cost in compared with present lights, but this is also offset by their extended life. In addition, the total heat output is much less for LED's than standard.

If your RV electric bill for lights is over 5 bucks a month you are in danger of getting skin cancer.

In fact I do have some answers.. And they are yes

There are two kinds of energy saving light bulbs, Florescent (Called CFL or Compact Florescent lamps) and LED.. Florescent 12 volt lamps can be found at any RV store

As for 12 volt LED lamps. There are a long list of companies making them..

Just 3 links, and there are many more.. No recommendations, Those are in my "To check out" folder

One caution however.... I have some LED lighting here and at home.. Some of it I'm very happy with, Some of it not so,, I find the bulbs may be dimmer and not nearly as white. I'm still expermenting with LED lighting

Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I replace all the light bulbs with the flourescent as they expire.

I have not noticed a change in the electrical bill.

I think if I cut the supply wires before the meter, the bill would still exceed 100 bucks
