The Eldorado was featured in a Doritos commercial several years back. Unlike the Bug it had a king pin reciever. The internet was fairly young in "commercial terms." so what info was out there was limited. The car in the commercial was a primer grey with big fender mounted trailer mirrors, and the king pin reciever was just ahead of the rear wheels. My best guess is that some sort of framing was extented down to the rear sub frame to support the reciever, which was possible in those day because fuel tanks were behind the rear axle. Significant mods would be needed for the rear seat, rear floor pan and probably the roof line as well to pull this off.
But it was way too cool....

I remember there being knob that stuck up from the hitch assembly, but it wasn't a ball. Far as I know, the roof of the Caddy was not reinforced in addition to the stock configuration.

Silhouette, Shadow--I knew it was something like that.
RedRam wrote: I heard about a olds toronado pulling a regular camper in Oklahoma years ago.The strange thing about it was the rear wheels on the olds were tied up somehow and the rear tires were removed. It was pulled mostly around larger citys advertising the hitch and hitch bars.
Those ads were in the TLs as well.

RedRam,
The Toronado was used by Reese E-Z-Lift hitches to show the rear wheels were not needed to support the trailer tongue when it was towed using that hitch. It was a 1977 Olds and that ad ran for years.

Ft. Collins CO - in the late 70's, early 80's we had a neighbor that pulled a fairly large fiver with his late 70s caddy that had a fiver hitch on his roof. Sorry now that I never did take a picture.

That Caddy has the hitch/adapter on the truck lid. The Shadow hitch went over the top of the center of the car and the front of the 5th wheel hung WAAAY over so it could connect to the pin in center of the car roof.
