My cousin bought a Jayco 30.5 BHS fifth wheel from them this past July. I went with him for the PDI and to tow it home.

RV Direct was excellent to deal with. Family owned and operated chain of dealerships were very good to deal with and had great follow though with after the sale minor issues.

We met Don Strollo, the president of the firm, who was very courteous and genuinely interested in my cousins comeplete satisfaction during and after the sale.

What I don't get is if you pickup at the Keystone factory, (another poster mentioned) in Elkhart, this means that no dealer does a PDI on the unit, and RVDirect gets paid, and doesn't even touch it. I have heard this many times. Dealers (internet or not) should not be aloud to have customers pick up their units at the factory, and customers should not do this, as no dealer goes through the unit. Keep this in mind if you are looking to purchase an RV!

Nonsense!!!!

If you value local service that much - fine. But please don't suggest that I should be prevented from picking up my new RV at the factory. Yes, I object to someone wanting to decide, or restrict my choices based on their opinion of what is best for me and others like me, but there's more.

In my case, next year, I will be hitting the road full-time spending almost all of my time in the West. I currently live in the East, but the dealers in my area that I've talked to still want their full markup. "Local service" in Connecticut will have zero value for me.

I do no know what RVDirect does now, but in 2004 they had a company named Charger who did the PDI and PDI walkthrough with me. They were excellent. They were in Elkhardt so we went close to the factory but not actually TO the factory. They showed me the list of things they had repaired before I got there and there was one item missing - the factory had someone drive it over to us.

For RVW, they are a dealership in Ohio and they do the PDI.

I have no problem with this model. These dealers are brokers with low overhead, fine with me.

Take your quote from RVDirect to the local dealer and add a few bucks,(that you would have spent traveling to RVDirect), and make a deal localy. You will get better service from a dealer you bought from.
This is the process I used when buying mine. The dealer was very happy to do business with me, and service is great

Oh, I am all familiar with dealers, lol...

What I am saying is, if you are going to buy on the internet and save some money...make sure you are getting a nice thorough PDI. There are enough wholesalers out there who will give you a great price, great service, and a great PDI. Not have you go pickup your unit at the factory...To me that's just cheating lol. The dealer (RV Direct) wouldn't even have to touch it in the above mentioned post. OK Bob, thanks for your $20,000...now go pickup your unit and have a nice life! As a consumer, this is a large investment, and give your business to a dealership (internet or local) that WILL do a thorough walkthrough / pdi and actually put their hands on the unit

That's all I am saying.

We bought our Designer from RVDirect last year. They were great to work with, and, after picking it up myself in Des Moines, I saved close to $10K over the best local deal I could get.
No dealer around here would touch that price, and a couple of them told me I would go to the bottom of the list when it came to service. It's funny, because when I went to that dealer's service department for warranty work, they were great !! I told them what the saleman told me and they said "Salesman will tell you anything to get the sale".

The Des Moines facility did the PDI ... but to be honest, I knew more about the trailer then they did!! There were a couple of issues that they fixed right away.

Would have no hesitation buying from them again. !

DaveLinde,
With either RVW or RVD, what do you do for service? I would think any local dealer might be a little upset with you for not working with them. I would be concerned that if you had a problem that 'required' dealer service it may be difficult to get help.

Not quite the same, but the last two vehicles we bought (including the Ram in our signature)were purchased at local dealers. Within 6 months of each purchase, the 'local' dealer either sold out or went out of business. Found that other dealers were more than willing to handle warranty and service work. Most warranty work is reimbursed by the manufacturer so it's sometimes easy money for dealers.

As davelinde stated, you do not pick up the unit *at* the factory, but at the dealer coordinated place where the unit is prepped and ready for you. It was located in an enclosed facility.

Also, service is not a problem for us, the local RV dealer said they would gladly service it.
