Many of the CG's I stayed at a few years ago were in the process of dropping their franchise due to the additional costs of upgrading to the franchise requests. A few I stopped at this year (that had not taken down their KOA sign yet) had been dropped too. And rightfully so.
Well fast forward 3 years. I am on the road full time and what I am finding is conforming KOA's. Bathrooms/showers that are likened to hotels. Laundry rooms where everything is new and works and you actually would want to sit there and wait and watch TV or read.
Pleasant landscaping and nice sites. The last 6 KOA's I've stayed at across the states all had the same ammentities including the small ones.
It's been a pleasure 'knowing' that eventually they will all be similar and you know what to expect instead of the horror surprises one occasionaly runs into when pulling in a CG at the end of your day.
What a relief when ending your driving day to get to a CG that you know will be nice. I think their move to conform all KOA's was a smart idea on their part. And in my travels I have found they are right in line with their prices with other CG's in the same area.
Just thought I'd share my observation for those including myself that have strayed away from KOA's after experiencing the bad ones. Looks like KOA has kicked 'them' to the curb and soon all will be upgraded to conform to franchise standards.

To each his own!! We are fulltimers and have all those amenities (except laundry) in our rig so have no need to pay the premium prices KOA charges. It is nice however to know that they are upgrading their facilities requirements.

We have stayed at several KOAs in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico on this trip and every one of them was nice, with nice people in charge.

We stay at KOA's when travelling to and from Florida and find them along 1-75 to be pretty good and consistent. We are also staying at the Naple/Marco Island KOA for a period of time this winter again and it is just fine.

We often stay at KOAs when we travel cross-country because we're seldom surprised and we get the ease of booking several stops on one computer site. We rarely use the pool or bathrooms either. I wish there was a national chain of roadside RV parks that had minimal amenities and lower costs but was still well kept and had an efficient reservation service with sensible cancellation and refund policies. There's a niche business for someone!

We don't stay at KOAs unless there's no other option. We find them overpriced compared with non-KOAs with the same level of facilities and maintenance. The higher prices are probably due to the franchise fees and corporate advertising.
