Sometimes it's not worth time or money driving all over to find a cheaper overnight. Because they are usually along the highway, my stays at KOA's have been passing through, and only once as my destination. I've not had any bad experiences and usually the prices for just staying overnight were in line with others.
Back when my dad was a highway warrier, Holiday Inn was the place to stay. They sort of lost their consistency for a while, but I believe they changed and I find them to be pretty good hotels once again. Maybe that's KOA's idea as well.

Thats really too bad. You are then missing out on staying in some very nice parks, and meeting some very nice hard working families.

KOA demanding certain standards is RUBBISH. Read some of the posts. You think these people are making up stories about bad KOAs? Or do you allow a certain percentage of BAD KOAs ? Do you eat at BAD McDonalds? Give it up, KOA control only cares about one thing, YOUR MONEY and they dont care how they get it.

there is nothing like one post saying something good about KOAs to bring the whiners out from under the woodwork. From checking my database I find that the majority of them I have stayed at are just fine thank you. and I have stayed at a few "former" KOAs that obviously lost their affiliation due to being unable to continue to meet minimal standards.

We've stayed at some bad CG's that are NOT KOA and are overpriced.

I've stayed at several KOA's and only one or two I wasn't real thrilled about. The same goes for RV parks and campgrounds I've stayed in as well so I don't see it a KOA specific problem at all. The ones I've stayed in never seemed over priced to me compared to similar campgrounds and RV parks of comparison. There are some Rv parks I'd never return to and a few campgrounds as well. I can honestly say there is only one KOA i would return to that I've seen so far.

Why do some people feel so upset over where other people stay? If someone likes a campground and they want to share, why do others (I won't name him/her) get so upset? If you don't like a certain type of campground then don't stay there. Why do you feel the need to dictate and get sooooo upset. My heaven's.....take a nap. Lifes too short.

Agreed, but the term KOA seems to do that to people who hold the dogmatic view that all KOAs are bad. The great thing about dogmatism is that it makes life so simple. Once a position has been chosen you never have to think.

I think there would be a better and more meaningful dialogue if the only folks that commented were those that were willing to pay a reasonable fee at a campground. In some posts folks whine about KOA meaning Keep on Adding where extra fees are charged for extra services. And in other posts, folks whine because their rate is not deducted because they don't use some of these facilities. Hey, if you want no services, no W/E/S/bathhouse/playground/pool/etc. stay at Podunk, Utah, city park. But don't whine about people who are willing to pay for something better.

The KOA I mentioned earlier was just sold to a corporation that has a few other non KOA CG's in the area. Those other CG's charge an $8 per nite resort fee. I don't mean to sound like I'm sticking up for KOA, but around here you have your good and bad, and it doesn't matter who's name is on the entrance gate.
