Has anyone out there ever installed a receiver hitch on their Eagle Superlite. If so what brand did you use? Did you do it yourself or get someone to do it for you? I need to be able to carry four bikes and this is the only way I think I can do this. I looked at the bike racks that attach to the bumper but from what I read that is an accident wating to happen.Thank!

I don't have a Jayco but I am installing a receiver hitch(Reese class III) on the back of my Sunline to carry bikes and one of those small cargo platforms. I am installing two sections of angle iron stretching from frame rail to frame rail than bolting the hitch to them. It will be mounted far enough rearward to allow removal of the underside mounted spare tire. My trailer's frame is I-beam so bolting or welding is easy to do. I have the hitch from my old Cherokee and already have the bike carrier, cost will be negligible.

Virgil that things looks really neat and easy, but will the bumper handle the weight of the rack and four bikes?

Highly unlikely! I wouldn't carry one bike on one of those let alone four! Trailer bumpers are made of very thin steel and the amount of bounce bikes will cause could lead to failure of the metal. At best, the tubular bumpers are good for sewer hose storage only.

A year or so back while driving through Colorado Springs on I-25 I saw not one, but two trailers that had used these and their bicycles were in the middle of the road, having had a bumper failure. The road had been under construction and was extremely rough, causing a lot of bounce!

I just check my fifth wheel rear bumper and it is build with higher gauge and it is welded very well to the frame. But before I will purchase one of those receiver I will check with Jayco and find out the rating of those rear bumpers. I will be carrying three bikes.

According to Jayco

"Frame prepped for bike rack/cargo tray"

This is a standard option...what does that mean really?

In fact it is an option if you build and price your fifth wheel from Jaco's website
