NOT tame birds, wild birds, humming birds have left I am 99% sure, only two yesterday and our first "cold" front, all the way down to 55 here this morning south of Fort Worth Texas.. and I have seen other birds moving in as is normal for fall and winter here. and the grasshoppers are gone, as well as the butterfly s. . So I am betting that our migration is if not in full swing started in earnest for sure. ( and I am NOT talking about Snow Birds!! )

Wow, that's early! We still have a lot of hummers, plenty of butterflies (lots of Monarchs) as well as our bluebirds, jays, swallows, cardinals, woodpeckers, and flycatchers at our feeders. Of course many of the birds stay year round.
The weather is cooler and the days are shorter but the flyers are still with us.

For about a 2 week period ending a week or so ago, there was a continuous swarm of hummers around my feeders, as many as 12-15 around my 3 feeders at any given time. Before that I would see 3 to 4, but now only seeing an occasional 1 or 2. Guess they moved on thru.
Drove down I-35 to Fredericksburg and back last weekend. I think maybe the Snow Bird migration may have also started. Lots of RVs on the road, most headed south.

Well you'd never know the season has changed here in So Cal... hotter than blazes these last days. But your posts give me hope that summer IS ending, and maybe I'll get some cooler weather on my road trip in a couple weeks...

A flock of Canadian Snow Geese flew over headed south on Monday. It seems like it is little early to me. But I'm not a goose so I am not really sure.

When I left the Midwest the geese were already flocking and heading south during the month of July!! The 'earliest' I have ever seen.
Thank God I will NEVER have to endure another winter there.
I'm making my way towards the TN/GA border and they are talking possibility of the low 30's here tonight........I guess I have to get out of this CG and get back on the road and get 'further' south.

So my humming birds have left,, not a one is the last three days. I brought in the feeders and disassemble them. I got a metal seed cake bird feeder and put all the small parts in it, snapped it shut and into the dishwasher. Once it is nice and clean, I will reassemble the hummer feeder and store it for the winter all ready to use next spring. just what I do to clean and store mine anyway.
And I will be on the look out for another new feeder as one of them is getting old and the plastic flower parts are chipping. Should be on close out about now.
