Since this is your one and only transportation:
1) Do not idle it for long periods of time.
2) use the EB all the time
3) Make sure to drive for about 45 minutes at highway speed with out the cruise control on once a week or so.
4) Get to a good Dodge Cummins dealer and have them do the latest flash and O2 sensor update. This should eliminate your major chances of CEL's
5) Have the dealer turn on the high idle feature and teach you how to use it.
6) At the same time, they can turn on such niceties as DLR's, fog lights and high beams. A good dealer will do this for free for you.

I concur besides the exhaust brake is just fun "tim allen grunt"

In addition, using the exhaust brake all the time reduces wear & tear on the service brakes. Makes a neat sound when decelerating, too

1 thing I did forget - there was a charge for an air filter in that final amt. Still seems too high to me.

Geno's has a Mopar air filter for you truck at $28, so it doesn't look like they surcharged you anything for an 08 diesel? Although I do agree that $82 for oil and air (what about your fuel filter??) is pricey. I prefer to do my own.

Have you watched the DVD/CD that you should have been mailed or should have came with the truck with host Sam Memmolo?

Anyway, the dealer is right on all counts. Use the EB, don't baby it, and you must use CJ-4 (special) oil.

These trucks hold approx 11.5 litres of oil,i paid 17.oo per 4 lire container plus 22.00 for a 5 micron fuel filter from Napa, that is approx 73.00 $$ and i did the change myself, our best dealer price is 200.00$$,yours sounds awfully cheap to me.

List price on the air filter is $35 from any dealer, so she wasn't overcharged at all. 08's go 30,000 miles on fuel filter changes, unless towing more than 50% of the time, which becomes 15,000 miles.
$82 IS in line

Locking out of OD and gearing down reduces wear and tear. I get 65-70,000 miles on set of front brakes and I don't have an exhaust brake. It's very hilly, or rather mountainous in my neck of the woods and I'm rarely in OD.

I never got one! Guess who I'm calling in the morning? I VAGUELY remember the sales mgr. mentioning getting one for me...now that I think back. But it totally makes sense that they'd have a DVD on this truc - it has so many gizmos on it, you need a "show and tell" video.

Ditto, and one more vote for CJ-4 Amsoil!

Well, if you did have an EB and used it, you would probably see 100,000 on your front brakes.
