A tag axle is a second axle at the rear. The drive axle will have the dual wheels and the tag is not a driven axle but is only there for additional weight support. The extra axle will also give a little extra stability in cross winds or when trucks pass. You will also have the opportunity to purchase 2 additional tires when they are due. It sounds like you definitely need a heavy duty DP.

No gasser will support a 900# motorcycle hanging on the hitch.

That might do the trick. My only problem there is that I'll be towing a Mazda Miata. Since it's rear wheel drive, it will have to be towed backwards. I've heard a number of people say that's unsafe as well.
Any thoughts there?

That sounds like a seriously expensive motorhome. Even used, I think we're probably way past my budget with something like that.

You sound pretty definite there. That's very disappointing.
But I'm not necessarily talking about a hitch mount. As I understand it, a number of carriers such as the hydralift, mount from multiple points, some as many as three. What I'm worried about here is the weight at the rear, whether a hitch would carry it or not. Even if it could be securely attached to the chassis, what would that do to the handling?

As mentioned before, the issue is the overhang. I have about 12' behind my axle to the bumper. My frame doesn't extend that far. Real bummer, I got a nice lift for next to nthing, and couldn't use it.
Look at the disel rear axle and the distance to the rear, plus your engine support is at the back. This configuration will usually support the bike.
a good lift is a 2 point, at the ends. A new receiver is welded in at each end to fit into. Don't use the hitch reciver.

I have been towing my 2000 Miata - facing forward and four wheels down for several thousand miles now and have had zero problems with that. And so have others I have communicated with regularly. Roadmaster of Oregon makes the Hitch attachment plates and the rest of the stuff, and is a great product. I have the Falcon II.
I also have a small bike and lift that I attach to the back end of the motorhome occasionally. You can see it at a link in my signature. I do not haul both of them at the same time, but I'm sure it could be done safely with some cleaver ingenuity.
The issue for you being the weight of the motorcycle you want to carry. I won't say there isn't a gas rig that can handle it, but I don't know which one might.

I carry a Honda 250 rebel cycle and tow a Jeep. I made my own rack. I made frame extensions from 2 1/2 square steel tubing and ramp rails from aluminum channel. The Rebel will carry 345# and can go 75 mph. It is on a Workhorse W22 chassis. The rack attaches to frame at 3 points. Very solid.

We won't put a carrier on the back of our MH because it would put too much wt on the back axle. Many we have met , tow a pick up with the lift ramp to put a bike in the bed.
