Hello, I like many others camp with one of my cats. He is diabetic and requires shots twice a day. Problem the cab of the truck is getting crowded! Our two dogs ride in the back seat and that leaves very little room for Zima in his crate. Please don't think I am a terrible pet-mom but how bad would it be for Zima to ride in the TT to the CG (in his carrier or loose)? It's about a 30 minute drive, the weather is nice so it's not hot at all in the camper. We have never tried this but have contemplated it when the poor guy is stuck in his carrier crammed in the back seat with 2 dogs who each weigh over 100 pounds.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

We've taken our cat with us on many camp-outs. Our cat is comfortable in the camper and has her own place she like to sleep. We use to travel with her in the truck, but one day decided to just let her continue sleeping in her spot. When we arrived at the next destination, she was still sleeping in the same spot. She choose a small enclosed area on the top bunk between the mattris and the wall and under a cabinet (boxed in). That's her spot now. So, when we travel, we just put her in the TT. When we "get there", she's always in the same spot sleeping like a "baby" kitten!

I'll be the devil's advocate here - the disadvantage of pets riding in the trailer instead of the truck is in case of an accident - trailers can easily become stacks of toothpicks, not exactly a safe environment for any living being. I also think that bouncy roads could make it pretty uncomfortable.

my only comment is, and I have cats and that issue has crossed my mind often.. Cats LIKE caves and given the option, they will find one or make one they feel safe and comfortable in.. So if cat likes the hole she found,,leave her..

Our 2 cats travel free in the TT when we travel. They have access to the kitty box and water at all times. This set-up has worked great for us and the cats have become very used to traveling in the TT. More often than not we find them calm and relaxed waiting at the door when we make a stop or arrive at our detination. If it is exceedingly hot, the poor babies do ride in the cab in crates. They yowel and cry the whole time. Sounds like Zima's first "ride in the back" will be a short one so go ahead and turn him loose!

We started fulltiming eight months ago with our three cats in a large travel carrier in the back seat. One of the three was a good traveler, one crawled under the bedding and the third, howled most of the time. We finally gave in and put the howler in the 5th wheel. She was happy and so were we.
They all travel in the 5th wheel now, and do just fine. Like another poster said, they have their litter box and their favorite places to ride which most of the time is on our bed. We are all happier campers now.

30 minutes doesn't sound too long but having a medical condition might make me thing twice. How is he at home, alone for that long? It's a judgment call only you can make.

After seeing a couple of TTs & 5vers after an accidents (not much left) and knowing how noisy, bouncy riding in a 5ver can be (I got caught in 5ver when Don moved to a spot in a bumpy parking lot) plus knowing how some skittish some cats can be and being very concerned with animal welfare issues, I favor transporting pets in the TV. HOWEVER, after saying all that, I must say that Sam was such a bad rider in a crate in the truck (howled the whole time!) and was obviously not happy, so I wound up putting her in the closet with her litter box, bed & food (gave her water at frequent stops). She was so happy with that arrangement that she often would not come out for hours after we were stopped for the night. In the MH, she is allowed to find her own spot which is usually under the sofa or the kitchen sink cabinet but sometimes just curled up under the Euro recliner.

Our 4 cats travel in the 5th wheel in small wire dog kennels. They collapse down for storage when not in use, and I feel it keeps the cats much safer during travel. I don't have to worry about anything falling out of the cabinets on them if we had to stop short.

I'll just throw this thought out there - make sure if you have slides that you block any way that the cat could get where it shouldn't get to.
We have a motorhome and we always close the bedroom door when we travel so the cats can't get in behind the one bedroom slide. They would fit back there very easily but we would never be able to get them out if we needed to do so. They would simply have to come out on their own.
