The F450 pickup is a medium duty truck that has a regular 8ft.bed.
The frame is like the F350 in that it is not the straight rail used in the cab/chassis version. The GVWR is 14,500 lbs. The rear axle is a Dana 110 rated at 11,000 lbs. Ford rates the F450 rear at 9500 with springs and tires it has. The steer axle is a Dana Super 60 rated at 6000 to 7000 lbs depending on springs. It is about 6 inches wider than the F-350 standard axle, which allows for more wheel angle so it has a shorter turning radius. The wheels are 19.5” ten bolt with G rated tires. Mine has the snow plow package with HD front springs and a 200 amp alternator. On a CAT scale the truck empty weighed 9100 lbs. With a large Truck Camper and lots of stuff it, 3 people, and 65 gallons of fuel it weighed 14,400lbs. The fuel tank is a 60 gallon Transfer Flow replacement tank
The F450 has bigger brakes that are much better for the big loads. The brakes are a wonder to use in a hard stop
Here is a comparison of the brakes that I had on my F350 and my new F450:
2002 F350 gross lining area rear 34.72 Total swept area per axle rear 244.81
2002 F350 gross lining area front 49.60 Total swept area per axle front 264.48
2002 F350 rotor dia. Rear 12.83
2002 F350 rotor dia front 13.03
2008 F450 gross lining area rear 55.6 Total swept area per axle rear 361.9
2008 F450 gross lining area front 55.6 Total swept area per axle front 337.2
2008 F450 rotor dia. Rear 15.35
2008 F450 rotor dia. Front 14.53
Notice the bias to the rear where the big weight is carried.

If the SRW350 would do it then I would skip the 450.
That's where I'm at right now. I have 250 lbs left before I overload the rear axle, and 3K until I run out of towing capacity. Buggy is 3K, so no water would be allowed, let alone the quad.
I would run it as is with the buggy and water and not worry.

Note the rig in my signature. My former TV was a 2007 F-350 DRW LB 4X4.
Can't begin to explain what a difference the F450 made in towing confidence over the F350.

Wife and I recently returned from Yellowstone, racked up about 2500 miles, on our F350 Desiel. We pull a FTL 4005 toyhauler, so I am pushing max weights. My truck was awesome, I averaged avout 11.5 miles per gallon. The tow boss is excellent I came down hills at 7% downgrade, I was holding on, but the truck worked wonderfully.
I have read lots of articles about F350 and 450, I agree the mileage will make you think twice. For some reason the 450's do not perform as well. Wife drives the 350 as a everyday driver, in town about 15, on the road no load, we are now pushing 16.
The truck was very comforatable, etended four door, King Ranch.
Good luck with your choice.

F450's use the Dana 80 rear axle, rated at 11,000 lbs (same axle as in the F350 DRW diesels) and also the Dana S-110 rear axle, rated 13,500 lbs (which also goes in the F550). What criteria Ford uses to determine which axle the truck gets, I don't know, but I see F450's with both axles.

I have never seen a F-450 pickup or cab/chassis with the Dana 80 axle. Only the bigger Dana's, 110. Easy to tell on the new trucks, the F-250/350 come with a finned aluminum diff. cover. Dana 110/120 do not have a removable cover.

The '04 F-450 I drive has the S-110, and according to the door sticker, an 11,000 RAWR.
Door sticker also states 6,000lbs FAWR, and 15,000lbs GVWR. Just FYI

If we are talking about the 2008 F450 pick up, there is no Dana 80.
Some earlier cab-chassis F450s had Dana 80, but there is no such axle in the current F450 pick ups
Front -Dana Super 60
Max. Rating @ Ground - 7000 lbs.
No. of Splines - 35
Rear – Dana S110
Max. Rating @ Ground - 11,000 lbs.
No. of Splines - 34
The 2008 F550 cab-chassis drive axle is rated at 13660 lbs. It has a bigger spring pack.

Dana S-110, the axle itself is rated 13,500 lbs by Dana, has been for several years now. Ford rates the rear end of the truck for all the components of the truck, so Ford's rating will often be different than that of the axle manufacturer. The Dana 80 is rated 11,000 by Dana, even though Ford may only rate the truck for 9,350, or whatever the number is.
An example is my truck, Visteon rates the axle for 6250, Ford rates the rear of the truck for 6084. The limiting factor is the tires. Ford rates the dually version of my truck for 7500, while Visteon rates that axle for 8250. The limiting factor is the springs.
When I talked about Dana 80's in F450's, I was talking about F450 chassis/cabs over the years '99 to present. Many F450's over the years have had Dana 80's in them, and many have had Dana S-110's in them too.
