Thought some of you might like to see some real world towing numbers on a 6.4 Power Stroke.
Towed the fiver to visit our friends in Iowa for a week and just got back and tallied the mileage for the trip, all hand calculated with every fill up being topped off. The actual figures are 973/102.7 for an average of 9.47 mpg, the computer said the average was 9.6. I was pleased with the numbers which were as good as my 2006 Power Stroke 6.0 SRW with 3.73 gears pulling a lighter fiver. The biggest difference was the power of the 6.4 coupled with the 4.30 gears which made for very few downshifts with the cruise set on 60 and the transmission in the tow-haul mode.
I did not weigh the rig this trip but previously the fiver tipped the scales at 14,400 and change with the truck coming in around 9100 full of fuel and passengers.

Always interested in seeing real numbers. I wonder who will be the first to say "my 6.4 does better than that"

My 1972 6.4L doesn't do that good, BEST I've got towing is 8.7 and that was 65-70 mph. Towing I average closer to 8.3 and I have never checked it not towing.

N9MB was that pretty much flat ground towing? Those are about the figures I have been seeing with the 6.4 at 55 or so.

Not bad at all. I have found my truck's mileage computer just about spot on also. Now that I have close to 16k miles on the truck, the latest flash(and the venturi kit installed), my towing mileage on the flats using cruise and holding to 55mph has netted me a solid 10.5 and sometimes 10.9mpg. While the 6.4 does not seem to do as well as the previous 6.0 and 7.3 PSDs driving unladened, when towing big trailers, the mileage is pretty close to those engines. My towing mileage is almost the same as my '04 6.0PSD, though driving slower due to the differential gearing.

Then I guess the guys with Duramax's (which get better mileage than newest Dodges) are even bigger "fisherman"?

Wow!! That is much better then I get!!! I never got better then 9.1 MPGs and that was with some running around town. I also drove 65 - 75 mph. Mine is F250 SRW CC 3.73, towing a TT probably 7,000# (just a guess)
Just a couple things to understand your towing conditions.
How many total miles on the truck? Any mods, programmer, dpf delete etc? Is this purely towing, or did you run around town some too? Relatively flat? Any dramatic wind conditions?
Thanks, I always appreciate candid fuel reports. I think I need to bring mine in, but I'm still gathering data to determine if I'm expecting too much.

Thanks for the numbers. Sure many of us with Cummins and Duramax powered vehicles may tend to say, we can do better, but not many of us are pulling 14K+ pounds with a 4:30 geared dual wheel truck. My only problem with your post, I had a difficult time concentrating on those numbers, kept thinking about that 3600 Bighorn. Beautiful camper, would no doubt be my next one if buying today.
