Judging by the burn pattern, this thing was parked when it burned...no assymetric pattern....

After talking about RV refrigerator's and the fires they have started, how about some "ideas" on preventing those fires? Could we "blow out the burners" with an air hose? Perhaps there are "bugs" in them, etc. Open for all sincere suggestions.

Yes, I am curious as to how we need to maintain the appliance so that we don't go up in smoke.

A good place to start is get the make and model of your appliance and stop over at http://bryantrv.com/docs.html for a copy of the SERVICE manual for your appliance (fridge/furnace/water heater).

WOW. That forum have changed lately. For years I remember that each refrigerator debate was coming to the conclusion "My father was using his RV with open flame under refrigerator, I am driving with open flame for 20 years and I intend to do so for another 25 or more".
In today's era of cheap and reliable inverters there is no reason for having open flame in RV while on the road. Even in my travel trailer refrigerator runs on AC and the plug connector adequately charge the batteries from SUV.
Than occasionally I experienced "bad" propane. When running low in the older tank, you are drawing heavy fraction of propane that leave heavy residue on burners and vents. Whenever you notice smoke on your cookware, or coming from water heater, check the refrigerator vents after.

lol that is a old recall for Norcolds. My TT is to new to be involved.

Please re-check the Norcold site...

I found out about the Norcold recall because folks with fairly new rigs are getting letters and one of 'em posted in the other RVforum I visit.

I found out my Dometic was under recall by re-checking and re-checking the web site because the first few times.. IT was not.

There is a song I know called "3's" It's done in Verse/Break style

The break is something like this

Three things you never trust in or you will not live for long
The'llll send a letter
The'll call you up
They will not do it wrong.

(Re-written to cover recalls)

I got no letter from Dometic.. I got no letter from Damon.. I read a post here that suggested I should check the web site again.

Same on the Fuel Clip recall on my 8.1

I still say MOST refrigerator fires are caused by poor/lack of maintenance and inspection.. NOT by defects

Common knowledge that pretty much every Dometic RV refrigerator has been recalled to install anti fire countermeasures. Perhaps this person didn't get the notification....

When we bought our 5'er used, the previous owner called us about a week later about a recall letter he had, but his Model # wasn't in the letter, so it wasn't recalled. However, after continually reading about this problem, yesterday I decided to ck. with Dometic - yep - mine's been recalled! SO, we sit in Arkansas ready to go back to Texas, but I made an appt. for Monday to get it fixed on the way out of town. 15 mins. they told me. So we are grateful for everyone's encouraging us to get it cked. I feel very blessed that we didn't have a fire this past summer sitting in Texas while we were asleep some night.

My Norcold went up in flames last May and it was less than a year old. Only quick thinking by my wife saved the rig from completely going up.
Just got it back from the dealer last week.
