I am planning to replace my old furnace with a new one, I think mine is Atwood (it has Hydroflame on the burner fan). What I really want is a new unit that is a simple exchange job!!
The Atwood Excalibur XT looks like a good furnace, how can I tell if this is the closest model to my old one????
I really need to get it right first time as shipping back and forth over the pond is not practical. I don't have a RV expert close at hand so I am trying to sort it myself. (I have experience of LPG fitting and simple electrics)
Thanks for any advice,
Nigel

Nigel,
Check this place out, they helped me find the direct replacement for my furnace. You may have to invest in a phone call though.

What is wrong with the Old Furnace? There isn't much to repairing Most of the Hydroflame Models!

Measure the furnace.. Get one that is the same physical size.
there are only two things you need concern yourself with, One is the physical size (Will it fit the hole) and the other is the heat output, BTU's if you are in the US Calories elsewhere.
You want the exact same physical size and if possible the same or more BTU's in most cases
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Keep in mind that heat pumps tend to not work very well once outside temps drop to 40F or less. OP is from UK, I'm not sure about how effective a heat pump would be there.
Besides, the furnace area he is talking about would be not much bigger than 1.5ft wide 1.5ft deep by maybe 10-12inches tall. Not sure that would create a whole lot of extra storage.
Sundowners, you could try contacting
RVSURPLUSSALVAGE.COM LINK
even though they are in the USA. I bought a refurbished Atwood 34K BTU from them about 2yrs ago for half price of new. They buy up "left overs" from many RV manufacturers when models change.
I see right now their website is only showing new Suburbans but I would suggest giving them a call anyway, they may be able to get what you want at a good deal. I have done this for some other items I needed and it wasn't listed on their website.

thanks for all your advice, I had not even thought of a heatpump, I imagime these are electric, we have a very limited supply but it stays around 0C and wet for a lot of the winter, we would be happy if if stayed around 40F.
The old furnace (when it worked)was VERY noisy and did pump fumes into the 5er, we now live in it so there is a chance that we could wake up dead!!!! (We do have alarms fitted), the air did get unpleasent.
I don't know enough about these units (yet) and it will get very expensive keeping a temperamental and important unit running, plus a new unit may use less propane.
Thanks again for ALL of your help,
Nigel
BTW I plan to 'phone PPL on monday
