We are now down near Bodega Bay and the beaches we have found say no dogs. We are going near Santa Cruz next and then down near San Diego and I'm really hoping we can let Daisy play on the beach. Are most California beaches off limits to dogs?? If so, I wish we would have just gone thru Nevada when heading south this year.

Huntington Beach has an official, world famous DOG BEACH! Most of the rest of the coast is off limits to dogs, as carless dog owners have ruined it with dog fights, people bites and no one cleaning up after their dogs, with the resultant health issues. Some areas allow dogs on the sidewalks fronting the beach, on leash. But straying onto the stand could cost $75.00 or more! The Huntington Beach Dog Beach is patrolled and cleaned, and enforced by the Police, LifeGuards, Animal Control and the wonderful volunteer dog lovers!
Here are some more, including Laguna and San Diego. Make sure to double check as some of these vary with the time of year! Don't give up Daisy!

Very tough to find any dog legal beaches in Calif.
If you want a very dog friendly beach environment, take your Daisy to Oregon.

We have let our dogs run on the Jalama beach near Lompoc. We didn't see any signs that they weren't allowed The dogs loved it and we're responsible dog owners. It is part of the Santa Barbara parks system. http://www.sbparks.org/Docs/Jalama.html
This RV park in Chula Vista, just south of San Diego, is on a marina and a beach/park. We love to go there and let our dogs run on the beach and of course pick up after them. I've never seen any signs that they're not allowed. http://www.chulavistarv.com/ There's a locked gate from the campground to the beach/park. They ask for a $5 deposit for a key.

There is a beach at Del Mar, just north of San Diego that is dog legal. Right where the creek dumps into the ocean, west of the fair grounds.
There is a dog beach at the Belmont Shores area of Long Beach.
Yes, most CA beaches are posted no dogs.
Many people run their dogs at beaches where there are not very many people or ticket-writers.

Jalama Beach has rules pertaining to pets, this being a state beach I believe these rules apply both in the park and on the beach. You can call them at 805.736.3504 to inquire.
Jalama Bach Rules and Regulations
The following was information posted on their website:
pets must be restrained on a leash of 6' or less, or confined to vehicle or cage. owners are required to clean up after their pets. vicious and/or noisy animals will not be allowed. owner must provide proof of rabies innoculation.

I go to Bolsa Chica SB several times a year. It is just north of HB,,
There is a dog beach about 2 miles south I hike down to the pier in HB about 6 miles seems like 20,,, and pass dog beach with the four legged friends running and swimming.
Bolsa Chica should have some drive up spots (power/water) on the beach mid week.
Paul
PS I have res for 6 days for 2 spots in a few weeks.

Pismo Beach allows dogs on leash. You can walk from the pier in town south to the state beach where they allow vehicles. Nice flat beach , great for walking.

Wow, I guess I knew these Californians were nuts, but I just didn't know to what extent. I'm from Oregon where I've never even seen a beach that is off limits to dogs. This is absolutely the last time we'll be traveling thru California. Guess their economy doesn't need my dollars.
