Well, when I'm on vacation I try to keep it at the posted speed, however, I tend to keep it at least 5 or 10 under if I don't have alot of traffic behind me. This is because, for some of us, these are our HOMES. The fastest I'll go is 65 mph - that's all I'm willing to give and that's all I'm willing to push the rig.

Mostly, I encounter hurried truckers, though. If the truckers (Can Haulers and empty logging trucks especially), think that's too slow, then by all means, pass if you must. That's not a dig on them, I respect what they do, but there are a few drivers I've encountered that could ease up on the lead foot.

I will pull over if I start getting a 3 or 4 cars behind me and I realize people have to get somewhere in this fast-paced world, but in my situation. If I was to have a front tire blow at a high speed, lose control and I wreck the motorhome - guess what? I'll be homeless and insurance will NOT replace it - so at MOST I'll be living in my van (with no RIVER to live "down by").

My thing is, I'm not going to sacrifice my home just because the mother of little Johnny can't get his butt down to the soccer fields on time.

BTW, one possible reason you're encountering these slow RV'rs is because they USE time management. They know where they have to be and when. How long they can be there, in some cases, they planned ahead in thier voyage for any traffic delays and when they should move on.

If more people would plan their trips - especially at the price gas is today, we wouldn't be such a hurried society and this wouldn't be a problem.

I just joined this forum and this is the first post I read. Can I expect to get lectured like this here? If so, this may not be the place for me.

Not if you don't vent like I do.

on the whole the members are great.

In Mexico if it is safe for a car behind you to pass you turn on your left hand turning signal. That helps the car or truck behind you know it's clear to pass. Works really well. Just an FYI not suggesting that will work in the USA.
... and just about the time you pull out and start your pass, the guy makes a left turn. Nah - I don't think you signalling the guy behind you is such a good idea. By the by, if you turn on your left turn signal to tell the guy behind you its clear to pass, what do you do to signal you are going to make a left turn?

I repeat "Just an FYI not suggesting that will work in the USA". For a left turn you pull off to the right and let traffic clear then cross the road, really depends on the situation/location. That way you don't hold up traffic.

What a bunch of jerks on here. The OP never said anything about wanting to exceed the speed limit. If your vehicle or you are not capable of driving the speed limit under normal conditions, GET OFF THE ROAD!

NOT!! They're the "ME" generation, if you don't like it, not their problem. Look at what happens when someone asks for a little common courtesy (and many places the law), pull over if you have a line of traffic behind you. Obviously they aren't in a hurry, but a 90 second stop would inconvenience them, and that ain't gonna happen.

Not just Rvers, I drive 8 miles to work..2 lane road...work 12-8am, I got to get home so the wife can get to work and the kids to school.... ALWAYS, EVERYDAY someone has to pull on from a side road in front of you and then go 45 mph in the 55mph..first im mad becasue they pulled out in front of me then I get mad, because they go 45... there is only 2 small areas to pass and usually you cant.

not much you can do...

It is critical for RV owners to understand and appreciate that not all vehicles are on vacation and sightseeing, particularly in rural areas. It is one thing to be driving 10-15 miles under the speed limit, yet add a convoy of 20-50 cars behind you who are trying to get to a meeting, work, a child's sporting event, a school activity, or responding to a personal emergency. You need to use your mirrors which serve a purpose and PULL OVER when an opportunity presents. It minimizes road rage in car drivers and it is considerate. By pulling over you contribute to the safety of ALL drivers. Not everyone is retired or on vacation. PLEASE, pass the word and be more considerate of all drivers. Thank you. Margo

Talk about tossing a grenade under the side of the tent...sheesh.

Critical? Emergency? Grab a dictionary and read up.
Critical is a substantial overstatement. Courtesy, yes. Critical, absolutely not. Running late is almost always caused by lack of planning for departure or overplanning too many events in too close of a time period then not allowing for reality. By simply leaving 5 minutes earlier the problems will usually all go away 99%+ of the time. Personal emergencies are usually lack of planning, impatience or overexaggeration and are seldom, if ever, actual emergencies. Yes, there are true emergencies occasionally however a run to the supermarket for chips and beer before the party starts is not an emergency. Road rage is little more than self centered me first behavior. (Do be aware that road rage against a vehicle that is 5-8 times one's mass will likely get one's self squashed completely into the ground - it's straightforward physics)

Please take into account that we're not all retired or on vacation when traveling even when we're running 15-20 or even 30mph below the speed limit. Sometimes it's fuel efficiency, sometimes it's safety related. A 5 ton RV even with new tires and ABS does not turn or stop like a 1800lb sports car. Never has, never will. Pulling over isn't always an option. Shoulders aren't always wide enough or safe for us to clear a lane enough for others to pass. The dirt next to the shoulder is usually a very bad idea especially at speed. (Do you really want us to slow down over 1500feet then come to a near complete stop in the middle of a high velocity road so we can inch off the pavement for you? (If you do, you might want to watch your rear view mirrors and plan on getting pile driven into the cage in front of you) If there are 2 lanes, sometimes the right lane isn't the safest place for us. If you have clearance, take the other lane and go, we won't stop you. Just don't try to wedge us off the road at 50mph when the passing lane or entry ramp ends because if you do, you're very likely to end up in the oncoming traffic lane or in the ditch. As for pulling over contributing to safety of all drivers, consider that we might be going slow for a really really good reason..and you can't see that reason way down there below our seat height with a wall of RV right next to you as you blast, or attempt to blast, past us.

If everyone would simply relax a little and enjoy life for a change, all the stress would go away.
