Thought we'd take a little side trip off I-70 today and take a look at Aspen.
No place to park.
Called the local PD to ask them where we might park for a couple of hours. Turns out they suggested a very small, downtown street with diagonal parking and oh yes, it was a dead end! They finally decided there was no place for us in town.
Ended up having to go 3 miles out of town just to find a place to disconnect the toad and turn around.
Too bad - probably would have spent a few bucks.
DW and I decided that the chauffeurs simply drop off the "fare" and park outside of town till called.
(goes without saying, I 'spose, that there's no Wal-mart in Aspen)
By the way, if ever in the area, don't miss CO. RT 9 - the Blue River Parkway. The piece we were on ran from Kemmling to Dillon. It was just spectacular!
As Always..HAPPY MOTORING!

It is impossible to spend a few bucks in Aspen. If you are going to spend bucks there, they will be big bucks.
I had a nice experience driving through Aspen as well with a full size pick up truck and a travel trailer. A lady in a Volvo SUV even stopped and informed me that I was in her way, and that I better move out of it. She said this with her nose high to the sky.
On a side note, did you see the Aspen airport right outside the west side of town? I have never seen so many private jets in one place before. Must have been 100-150 or maybe even more.
This town is not for us common folk, or even the millionaires among us. This town is truly a playground of billionaires or celebrities.

I can't believe that in Aspen! A VOLVO???? How gauche - anyone who's anyone is either driving a Bentley or if it HAS to be a SUV, certainly nothing less than a Range Rover!
Obviously the economy is hitting even THEM in Aspen - I think there might have been a mere 20 private jets!
It's such a shame they must live this way.
I am perfectly content sitting in the Wal-mart lot in Rifle, CO tonight!
Onto Arches and Canyonlands tomorrow, leaving those poor soles behind.

Most of us that live in Colorado can't STAND to visit Aspen....a bunch of snooty people live there, and I can't think of ANY reason we would want to visit that place.
The closest RV park is in Basalt...about 15 miles away, and I'm not exactly sure it's still in business...
Aspen is NOT RV friendly....or even friendly for that matter!

I know.....stupid me.
Just thought a visit soundedd like a good thing.
Guess we should just stay in the interstates from now on.
Say,if you're thinking about visiting Boston, just do it. It's a great place to bring the MH. Just call the PD once you're there and they'll be glad to help.

Aspen is NOT a place for motor homes or any sort of RV in my opinion. We made a terrible mistake (must have been the jacka$$ driving ) a few years ago and came through Aspen. We were sick of interstate and decided to get off the around Glenwood and cut through the mountains to I-25 South. To make a long story shorter, I did not heed the signs about vehicles over a certain length not allowed on the road across Independence Pass. I believe the length was 30 but I may be wrong. Anyway, we were 36 and thank goodness no towed! The road kep getting narrower and narrower until the center line was gone. No shoulder on one side - nor guard rail either!! Rocky outcrops on the other side. Creeping around the turns hugging the "shoulder" and dodging snags on the other side. It began to get a little wider and what do we meet? Some poor guy from Texas in a 36 footer, pulling a jeep, coming down the other side. We stopped and he said the road was passable where he came from. I told him what we had just experienced. He said he could not turn around now! I hope he made it to the bottom OK. When we got to the top, there was an observation area/pullout parking. Clouds, two claps of thunder and we had the dangest wind, snow and ice storm I have been in for many years. Two inches in like 10 minutes. We had to wait for a half hour or so and it began to melt.
Down the other side and darn glad to be off that mountain!!

This is my EXACT fear of traveling in the mountains...so I've got to figure out a way to keep OFF those types of roads. So how does one know where NOT to go with their RV? Trial and error? Or is there a book?
