My wife & I are in the process of listing our house for sale and would like to try living in an r.v. full time for a couple of years. We live in Ontario, Canada and would go south for 5 or 6 months a year. Looking for comments.

There are a lot of things to consider but they are well covered on various theads here that you can search. If it is something you want to do and can afford to do it would only be smart to give it a spin it seems to me. There is always another house for sale. Regrets are expensive as well of the road not taken.
What type of RV's are you considering?

That was what we did but not to live in. We see some nice under 10 year old MH's starting around $20K.

This is a good place to gain insight into the pros and cons of full timing. Do your research and best of luck to you.

Also, don't make the mistake of taking delivery of the new motorhome right when you are closing escrow on your home. The MH will, most likely, not be perfect and will be in and out of the dealer's for a while as you work out the initial bugs.

we are also in Ontario and spend 5 months in Arizona in winter. We started out in winter 04-05 with a 30' travel trailer. Just loved the life style.(Did not sell house) after 3 winters in the TT we "needed" more room. Bought a 38' 5th wheel and are in rv heaven! Last winter was so comfy we hated to more back into the house in April. We are packing up this week and will leave on the 22 of Oct for A4rizona. Yes, 38' is alot to tow, it looks huge to me. We take our time, and make the drive in 7 1/2 days. Don't work so are in no hurry. We shopped for 3 yrs,and found a 3 slide model with king bed, the perfect floorplan for us and the cat..we are not selling the house! We really enjoy the 5er and look to many good years with it. Its nice to sweep sand instead of blowing snow! Be glad to answer your questions when they arise. Happy rving..Dona

We don't fulltime. But talking to others that do, they have all mentioned unexpected expenses. Especially when things like fuel prices go thru the roof. One family indicated they were in fine shape when starting, but because of high inflation, they would like to go back to a home. But with MH prices in the tank, they cannot do that either. Their travelling has been pretty well curtailed. And staying in less expensive places. What started out as a great experience, has turned into a real problem for them. And now they do not enjoy it at all.

My aunt & uncle have been full timing for several years now in an airstream trailer. Fortunately they can summer on a family cottage site. However it does get chilly in the spring and fall. You could probably find a summer seasonal site at a private campground.
Fuel is not a big consideration as they drive to northern Florida and back but no other travels. The other cost is out-of-country health insurance. The daily rate gets more expensive for longer time away so you may have to factor in a couple of flights home. Others may have more info on insurance.
Also, the IRS will be interested in you when you spend a lot of time in the USA. You should file a "Closer Connection" form to maintain your Canadian tax status.
