I'm talking about the new fifth wheel. I printed off a list from the Forum. There is a lot on the list to go thru, I can tell you right now they have us scheduled for 3 PM to take the hitch plate off the old RV, and install it on the new RV, etc. They close at 5PM, but I was told they will stay over as long as it takes.

They have no idea we will show up with this list! I don't know if we know enough about anything to get it done right. Do they help you at all with the list, or do they just look at you and expect you to do everything?

I'm feeling overwhelmed already and we haven't even got there yet. Sorry to rant but I feel bummed. Any ideas I could sure use some? Thanks guys.

I would figure on a half a day unless this is your first 5er, and then it might take a bit longer. Good if you can video record the PDI in case you forget down the road how something was explained..Good Luck

You need to control the pace of your walk through. Make sure you understand. I would suggest you record it, maybe bring someone along to do it for you so you can touch everything they're talking to you about. Long is not a problem. I had a good working knowledge of stuff and ours took quite a bit.

When we picked up our new 5er several years ago, they spent an hour or more going through everything with us, then we stayed on their lot in the camper overnight and we went back through things we noticed overnight with them.

My first idea is to relax...Remember, getting a new toy is suppose to be FUN.

Take as long as you need...before you sign the final check $$.

Some folks even take along a friend to video tape the entire walk through - inspection process. Don't try to do this yourself or you will be concentrating on the taping and not on the walk-thru.

Who is your dealer? I have done business with many of the Seattle area outfits. I can tell you that some are much more "newby friendly" than others.

Good luck, relax, and enjoy the experience.

You want to know that all systems are working inside and out. Unless your contact states AS IS you have a waranty. So why worry, if something shows up after, just take it back and they will fix it. You can't back out of the deal now, as the time to ask questions was before buying. If it is brand new why worry? Remember the wisdom of age is to not worry, as you can only do something about some things and the rest is out of your hands. Have faith, it will all work out, as you sound like you are on the ball.

Having previously worked at an RV Dealership and one of my jobs was to to do the new/used trailer Demo's. For us it was always really easy, because any new trailer is warranted. I demonstrated how things worked to the new owners and always let them know to ask any questions at any time. I would add my own experiences in to let them know how I did it on my own trailer. I always included that they should take along a pad and paper and write down any little cosmetic or whatever problems they encountered and bring it back after a couple of uses or a month and we would get them all fixed up. Worked very well!
Made friends with a few of them and discuss camping issues to this day 3 years later.

I'd reschedule for earlier in the day, even if you have to change dates. Ours took about three hours, and I don't feel it was a real through walk through. While they said they would stick around past five, you may still feel rushed to leave, or to get the fiver home and put away before dark. It's your money, take your time and be sure you understand everything. Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

I've never done a walk-through on a 5er, but our MH (first RV) took from 9am until 5pm without a break. Bumper to bumper and top to bottom, every knob, drawer, appliance, light... everything. Man was I tired and slept great that night. We did stay close by for 3 days to stress test everything and also because of a pretty severe ice storm! Congratulations and take your time enjoying your new toy.

For the uninformed. PDI is pre-delivery inspection. It is performed by the dealer prior to delivery of the unit to the customer.

On the day of closing, the dealer does a walk through inspection with the customer. At this time, the dealer shows the customer how everything works, shows the customer how to hitch up if needed and they make a list of any customer concerns (if there are any).

Contrary to popular opinion, the customer NEVER does the PDI, and I'd love to see a walk through that takes a half a day.
