The only trailers in MO that are required to be safety inspected are for commercial vehicles only. As far as I have known recreational vehicles are left out of it.

You are not only required to meet the towing requirements of your home state, but you will have to meet the requirements of any state that you to through. They will recognize the drivers license requirements of you home state, but when your wheels are on their road, you need to abide by their weight limits and brake requirements.
We have had 3 motorhomes and I had dinghy brakes on all of them with the the break away feature. To try and justify the legality of a towed vehicle vs a trailer is crazy. The coach or tow vehicle only knows that it has an additional 2500# plus pushing it when it tries to stop. 2500# of feathers or 2500# of rocks is still 2500#.

Nice chart. However, it doesn't answer the OP's question at all, regarding required equipment for towing.
I notice that in the "trailer weight requiring brakes" column it doesn't say whether the listed weight is unladen weight or gross weight.
I'm not sure about the speed figures, either. In some States ALL towing vehicles must obey the posted TRUCK speed limits, in some States, that isn't true, towing units can follow the same speed limits as anybody else.
A rather useless list, IMO.

I spoke with a CVO LEO today and he said I was ok, even with the mirrors that were on my truck. I am going to put bigger ones on anyway just for my own security.
