There is! It's called an inverter generator with a sound enclosed framework and casing. Made by Honda, Yamaha, Kipor and a few others.. They just cost a bit more..(but are well worth it )

Hey!! Maybe that's one reason that they cost more???

I regret buying my Honda 2000s. I have two of them. 1st one was b/c I needed it for my boat but I sleep on it about 3-4 times a year. I jumped the gun and bought the 2nd one if April knowing I would be getting a generator. We camp mostly at places with electrical and water. I haven't had the need for the 2nd unit as of yet. If I have a need around the house I will be set up.

I have a loud coleman I think around 6500 surge and two honda 2000s. I do have 2 fridge, freezer, pond, salt tank, fresh tank, kegerator, and window a/c unit for air in masterbedroom and then I could still run satellite and tv for the kids.

you can use a wire cage for extra large dogs and line it with sound absorption material... if it isn't sound absorption it won't help all that much...

to save some money make panels from heavy 4x4 wire used for concrete reinforcement and Velcro the sound absorbing panels together... the panels lay flat and can be tied together for easy handling and storage...

you can call this company for other suggestions... click here

I never made one but have seen a home made one, the guy said it worked well but I didn't hear it... so he was right or didn't use it...

I would be concerned about heat build up though, but he said he didn't have a problem...

Rubiranch,

No buyers remorse...I just hadn't seen one (a champion) operate and hear how they sound. I knew the challenges about mounting before I picked it up. Had it been much quiter we probably would have kept it. But no I'm not willing to dish out another $500+ for a Honda...there's just not that much difference. I checked with the store manager before hand to make sure there wouldn't be any problem returning it. He thought it was a good idea to check it out himself! Stores that would require a 10% refund don't usually stick around very long.

I just wish my TT had a place designed to store it, but as my research shows, there's just not any TT out there that have a genny compartment.

I hear you about justifying the purchase and wondering when you will use it. I did the same thing an ended up buying a Kipor 3000W back when you could get on for less then $1000. That was the max I was willing to spend given our needs.

We would not be able to camp the way we like to at many of our favorite state parks if we did not have the generator. I like full hookups some times, but we really love the type of camping that can be done at state parks and around here, they are amost all dry. One of our favorite, Pawtuckaway State Park in NH, doesn't even have a dump station!

If you don't like to or want to dry camp, then you really don't need a generator.

I'll be picking up a Champion generator shortly. We are living in the TT while building our log house (doing it ourselves). Though I haven't seen it yet, neighbors have said in the winter the power sometimes goes out for 3 or 4 days. If it were not for that possibility, I wouldn't bother with a genny. Well actually, I've been trying go convince the place I work to "lose" one of the Army's 10 kW TQGs we have stacked on the lot.

I have the champion 4000 and it works just fine for us when we are out in the mountains. We use ours on every trip to run the micro and keep the batteries charged. There are usually 3 or more TTs when we go out and we dont get any complaints about the noise. Actually we have been told that others are surprised at how quiet it realy is. We do pull our plug out as far as we can get it without putting stress on it and put the genny at the end. It has come in very handy many times. Especially on them rainy days that the kids are stuck inside and want to watch a movie. It does all that we need and the noise is not bad. I can have a conversation by it with little effort to hear the other person. Some people just like to throw a dark cloud on anything that might save them some money and do the same as the expensive unit.

I bought my generator thinking that I would use it for the trailer only.
Our power has been stable at the house. But recently, there has been a rash of power outages that have lasted more than 4 hours. I am very glad I purchased my generator..

I think you just saved me $300, I mean $450!

Now talk me out of the solar panels I want for keeping the batteries topped off when in storage or if ever camping in the cold with out power hook ups.
