i need a little help. the a/c is a brisk air and the unit works fine. the problem is if i set the thermmostat to auto and lets say 75 it turns on and stays on it won't cycle on and off. i don't know enough about a/c wiring to know where to start.

It would be constanly running if it can't get to 75 degrees. But if it gets to 75 it should shut off. The noise from the compressor is lower than the fan. Listen to see if the compressor cycles on and off. If it does then it's just the fan that continues to run. If the compressor never cycles, it would freeze the coils. It cycles to allow them to thaw. There are sensors to make it cycle, they could be loose, as road vibrations can cause them to disconnect. Turn the unit off and remove the filter cover and wiggle the connections to make sure they have contact. Then try it again. Good luck!

The fan/blower runs all the time the A/C is "enabled". The compressor will only cycle on and off, sometimes/often inaudiably so, if the evaporator tends to freeze over or once the temperature nears your setpoint.

it falls way below anything i set it on. it was turning on and off just like your home ac. now it is cooling past the set temp and not shutting off. i know it is set to cool a sittle below set temp before turning off. but this is acting like it is set on high/on instead of hi/auto

The fan generally runs all of the time and the compressor cycles on and off. It also will not shut down the compressor until it reaches the set point temperature.

The Coleman thermostats are really a piece of over priced junk. Best thing to do is head down to Wally World and get a $25.00 Hunter digital stat that will operate from a battery. Much better temperature than the coleman junk.

sounds like your thermostat, either faulty or not even wired properly to begin with (common).

As I understand the settings on my A/C and I think this is common to most of 'em

HIGH = Fan runs all the time, top speed, compressor cycles on and off per T-stat
LOW = Fan runs all the time, Low speed, Compressor cycles on and off per T-Stat
AUTO = Fan is also controlled per T-Stat and comes on along with compressor (may run slightly after compressor shuts off)

On some rigs fan speed may also be T-stat controlled (mine is not)

I like to run the fan all the time because

1: It masks noises from outside the rig at night
2: the cycling of the fan is WAY WAY WAY more annoying than the cycling of the compressor

In fact, even though the temp outside was only 42 this AM (34 at the airport) I have the A/C fan on ... JUST the fan (FAN MODE) to help even the temps in the MH and to cover exterior sounds. IT works well.. Of course in FAN mode the compressor NEVER cuts in.

Side note.. You know those pillow like things you can get to plug up your roof vents... Well, it was colder last night than the night before.. However yesterday I put the pillows in the vents... The result.. I used less heat (I'm using electric so it's easy to monitor how much I use) and woke up to a warmer rig, 1,000 watts less, and it's colder outside by 6 degrees too
