Someone told us today that we had to have a Wineguard converter box or the antenna would blow our box. He said an RV tec told him that. True or False. We already got other boxes. Thx

False, it didn't blow mine. I use the cheapest converter available with no issues.

Got my converter at WalMart for $9.87, with coupon.Seems to work pretty well.I'm sure it will take a little time to learn how to operate it effectively.

Don't hook it between the antenna and the switch box. Instead, hook it between the switch box and the TV. It does require that the converter has analog pass through so that other devices can go through the switch box to the TV.

Re: Antenna booster: Yes, if you are going to use the antenna, it works better if the booster is on.

Sounds like infor from someone who sells only Wineguard converter boxes, which, BTW, are typically higher priced than similar converter boxes which work just as well if not better.
Youre antenna will not blow out your box or do anything else negative to your system regardless what kind of name is on the box. I've been using my Zenith boxes since June. Also used Digital Stream and have played with a couple of others. Absolutely no problems.

The wineguard box is available at Target (in my area) for $49, its just not branded as Wineguard. BTW, its ok but not spectacular.
