BrakeSmart is hands down the best aftermarket brake controller out there. Put one on my previous truck after I got sick of the cheap Prodigy jerking me around. Puts you in complete and absolute control of your towed trailer. My current truck has a built-in controller which is completely integrated to the trucks brake system, but I still miss the BrakeSmart. You can get them direct from http://www.brakesmart.biz/

BrakeSmart is possibly the best brake controller available for best all around performance. When I had the Prodigy I switched two trailers to electric/hydraulic disc brakes but after the switch to BrakeSmart the last one is on hold. Sometime I'll possibly convert the last one but it is no longer a priority. Before BrakeSmart no one would have been able to convince me that electric could ever work so well. More costly but you get what you pay for.

Although I dont have one I agree with the above. Close second is MaxBrake. I dont know how much difference there is between the two, but they both work on the same principle - that being sensing from brake fluid pressure in the master brake cylinder.

I have a Jordan and if it ever goes or we replace our 5th wheel, I will have one or the other.

Thanks for the reply ksd I have seen your pic's before, they are the reason why I was interested in the BreakSmart. I have a 2005 Sub with the 8.1 and 3.73 rear, but maybe will upgrade to the 4.10's depending on final choice of trailer. You say the install was pretty easy and I have heard the same. I could probable do it myself as as well, I just can't get over the price for the unit. Maybe I'll just bight the bullet and spend the dough and do it. Please don't be surprised if you get a PM on how to fish the line. The install looks great.

Don't take this wrong, get over it. Not that you 'need' it for safety, but let's look at the whole picture. How many THOUSANDS of dollars have you spent in the truck and trailer? Now compare that to $450..........

The Prodigy is probably overpriced for what it is also, as is the MaxBrake I'm using.............but of all the $$$ you've spent so far you will not regret this $450.

As chadsalt suggests...do it. Good braking will change your attitude on trips. It can make that much difference. You will only buy one.

I had an Activator II and used to hate lights, traffic and any slowing. It became 1 hand on the steering wheel and the other on the adjustment knob.

I know the Prodigy is far superior to the Activator, but from what I hear (and know) about BrakeSmart and MaxBrake, there is the same difference all over again. I presently have a Jordan and would put it in 3rd place amongst brake controllers.

Take a look at MaxBrake - it works on the same principle - senses brake fluid pressure in the Master Brake Cylinder.

There is a guy selling the BrakeSmart through an ebay store for $399. That's the best price I found, and it's where I got mine. He is an authorized retailer.
