We do, so I understand completely!

When we are out walking we almost always get asked about their breed. When we reply "Lhasa Apsos" we get some rather humorous attempts at repeating their breed name. Like "Oh Lapso Oopsies I've heard of them" or "Loosa whatsa?" or small children seem to say something like "Lotsa Oppies, they sure are cute". I just smile, say the name correctly and then give them a short history lesson on the ancient Tibetan breed of dog.

How ya think poor ol' Maggie feels.... loll.. she is something, not really sure no more, but she has it made...

When we had our first corgi, one man asked about him. I answered "Corgi" I knew this guy wasn't very bright, and didn't want to get into the whole Cardigan vs Pembroke thing, just said "Corgi". He pauses, then says "Naw, what you got yourself here is a cross between a shepherd and a wiener-dog!"

Walking our whippet (neutered male) and 3 Italian greyhounds (youngest is 5 yrs) very often prompts oohs and aahs over the "greyhound and her 3 puppies".

We have a Australian Cattle Dog, and while most folks have seen blue heelers ours is red. So I get funny looks when I tell them we have a red heeler.

I did have a person at a fair a couple of years ago ask me if my son's show heifer(800 lbs) was a dog!! No joke! Granted she did have a halter and lead but come on!

I've got a red Australian Shepard, with a VERY thick coat. She really does look like a small bear! She goes everywhere with me (work too) and I get asked about her a couple of times a day, every day.

I've also got a border collie, but everyone knows what he is.

We fostered one a for a short while and he was far too intelligent for us. Cutest darn dog, all 25 lbs of him!

People don't believe our smooth coated Border Collies are what we say they are.

I frequently get asked if my adult black tri Aussie is a Border Collie - my response is to turn her around and point out her lack of a tail .

The worst is my friend and her Portugese Water Dogs. All of hers have the wavy coat and she is always being asked about her "Doodles". The PWD people have even had a shirt made up that says "No, it's not a doodle!"

We've had those questions for all of Poquita's (on the right in this photo) 11 yrs. She's a 6 lb chi/pom and kids are the cutest. One little boy started laughing and said, "There's a little fox!" Another small child seriously asked his mom if that was a cat or a dog. One woman said, "Well, she looks like a purebred something!" We've had requests to buy or breed her all her life, fat chance! I always wanted to tell folks she's a miniature German Shepherd but I fear I'd start a stampede!

Same here - but Jack confounds them even more because his tail was docked

(Here's Jack supervising some kiteboarding)

I've also had folks scrutinize him, wondering out loud what he reminds them of.....and I laugh and say "Dingo?" since he has a strong resemblance to his long-ago ancestors....LOL!!
