Most of the propane dealers I have contacted say that their insurance will not allow their trucks to deliver propane to an RV, the RV must be brought to the dispensing station.
However, I have seen propane trucks deliver to RVs once or twice in the three years we were full timing.
It is my understanding that frame mounted tanks do not need the OPD fill valves installed. For best information, check with your local propane supplier, such as Amerigas, V1 Propane, etc. Don't ask the pump jockey at the Flying J or U Haul, he probably doesn't know the regulations.

During the wintertime, a propane truck delivers to our park, servicing the motorhomes only. I was told a motorhome tank does not have the OPD. Of course, I live on the other side of the world from y'all!

I have had a 500 gallon tank at the house and several times when the propane distributors truck filled the house tank he also filled the motorhome tank. One of the drivers would ask if I also needed the propane tank filled.

I think that most motor homes have the OPD valves on them. I had a 1988 Mallard that had the OPD valve.

The 1998 revision of the National Fire Protection Association's Pamphlet 58 requires that all cylinders, 4 lb. (1.8 kg) through 40 lb. (18 kg), fabricated after September 30, 1998 shall be equipped with an OPD valve. Further, any cylinders of these sizes that are re-qualified must be equipped with an OPD valve. If your cylinder is over 12 years old, it must be re-qualified before it can be refilled. It will be retrofitted with an OPD valve at the time of re-qualification. You can find the date of manufacture on the upper collar of your 20# cylinder. Effective April 1, 2002, no cylinder will be filled unless it is equipped with an OPD.

Most asme(?) tank do not have a OPD valve. They are exempt from expiration dates and the OPD valve. If they are asme approved tanks and that is better then Gold in the tank field. Most frame/belly mounted tanks are asme tanks.
Mine RV has a 16.2 gal tank and asme certified. My propane guy said that you do not need to recertify the tank unless you see or believe there might be an issue with the tank. I have a 1952 5gal tank that is a asme tank and it has never needed to be recertified. I do get questioned about it though.
At least here in Idaho.
So the question is what kind of Tank do you have??
Good Luck, Robert.
ps still no spell check?

Propane Tank OPD Valves
As I understand it, this only applies to USDOT tanks or bottles, the "portable" ones.
ASME tanks, which include most frame mounted tanks on motorhomes, do not have to comply with the USDOT rules.

Just call any propane delivery company they will come out and fill it up. Price may kill you but they will do it no problem.
