I used to drive for a guy & one winter I went after hours & picked up the trairer from the shop & all was well till I hit the brakes on some packed snow to avoid some 4wheeler that pulled out in front of me & I looked out the side window to see the back of my trailer trying to pass me that was when I found out that the shop had plugged the air lines to the service brakes on the trailer b/c they didn't have the right valve to fix it.

Just out of curiousity, what setting did you use on the allegedly-faulty Prodigy? Was it cranked all the way up to 13, and still not giving you adequate stopping power?

How was it mounted?

Could you loan your prodigy to someone and have them set it up and test it in their rig? It'd be interesting if it works in another rig with another driver. You could be making a simple, honest mistake in the way you're using it. It happens to everyone at some point in their lives.

I had the power set at 13, max! and the boost was at 2 and it still didn`t stop like it should. I`ve tried many different settings all of which didn`t fix the problem. the Prodigy is mounted on the front of the dash right where everyone else, including my buddy, mounted there`s/his. it is at the proper angle. believe me I have exhausted every possibility on this issue only to come up with the fact that there is a problem with the Prodigy, mine anyway!

Yeah I was thinking of giving it to my buddy to try on his trailer. were meeting up at the campground on fri. evening. he also has a Prodigy, so we`ll see how it works for him.

With your friend having much the same, you should try swapping the controller and put the trailer on each others vehicle. You should be able to identify exactly what the problem is.

Exactly. It's not always possible to put the Prodigy in a different rig and try it, but when you have problems like this and the opportunity arises, I say go for it. It'll remove all doubt about where the problem lies:

Put your prodigy in the known-working rig. Put the known-working prodigy in your rig. See whose brakes don't work.

If his brakes don't work, then it's your Prodigy.
If your brakes don't work, then it's your rig.

Either way, you aren't as frustrated because you know what's going on.

Yep I`m going to do that! and he also has an X, so it will be an exact comparison! I can tell you this though. we are leaving from my work today and when I got here I checked inside the trailer and there was stuff slid forward that has never moved before!!! obviously my brakes are working much better. we`ll see how his trailer does with my old Prodigy. I can`t use his Prodigy easily as I had to wire the Ford connector to my old controller. so i don`t have another Prodigy-Ford connector readily available.

I had the same problem with my Tekonsa controller when i changed from a TT to our used Montana 5er.Brakes would work one time then wait after application and lock up or work weakly. Rewired everything from the battery to the brakes, Camping World replaced the controller, checked all brake shes and drums, still no luck.\
Dropped the 7way plug and cracked it enough it inserted hard so replaced it and
Viola! good brakes. The old connector was corroded enough to cause a poor connection for the low current Prodigy electronics. Anyway it works great again,
and it was a quick $7.99 fix.

Something I do with the Jordan is once I enter the highway, I turn the braking to the max. I dont want partial braking in the event of an emergency or have to remember to reach down and crank it up. Once back on city streets, just make the adjustment again. There isnt too much difference, but I do use slightly lower output when not on the highway.

You really don't want your trailer brakes to lock under any emergency situations. You achieve max stopping ability at the threshold of locking. But stopping and control go out the window once the brakes lock up. Screeching tires only give the impression of stopping quickly.

Lance835,
You are correct. I indicated in an above post (you may have missed it) that I cant lock my brakes on asphalt. I just want to be sure in any emergency I obtain all the braking available just above skidding.
Take care.
