Hey guys,

The lowers on my 34 foot Itasca Suncruiser are a little faded. They are a grey color and have lost their shine.

I had a quote at paint shop to have the lowers buffed and it was $500. that seemed a little expensive. Am I being unreasonable, is that a fair price?

Cheers,

Batts

I wouldn't pay $500 to just have the lower part of mine buffed. Look at it from a man/hour stand point. How many hours do you think it would take and what is a fair wage and profit in your area?

Probably not a bad deal, it's all labor, is your MH full body paint or decals, if decals may not do much good. Might want to try a couple of spots to see if it works prior to spending the money for someone else to do the labor for you then finding out it doesn't work. JMO

Try a few detail shops, that price sounds excessive. Maybe the paint shop figures RV owner means lots of $$.

That may be 5 hours labor. Many shops are up to $100 per hour. The rate may be less but the shop may fear damaging the unit. Of course if the shop you ask just doesn't want to do that kind of job it may be high.

Why not just Rent a Good Quality Buffer and do the job yourself! Just make sure not to hold the thing too long in any one spot !

Call a mobile detail service, tell them what you got, get a quote and have them do a small section 1st to see if it works for you.
I can have my whole rig polished out for half of what your spending. They come right to my storage area.

Wow - going by that $500 for the lowers IS excessive!!

My uncles 38 ft 1988 Country Coach is at a paint shop at the moment. Im having the lowers (side, front and back) repainted and the whole top of the coach buffed. $3800 plus tax

You didn't mention if you were physically able to do this type of work. If you are, then just do what I did. Spend $500 on a nice Porter Cable polisher and related foam pads/supplies. I use it for all my cars. I got several waxes/polishes and other things in this price. I imagine you could get a setup for about $350-$400

I got mine from Autogeek.net

It isn't strictly a rotary polisher that can burn your paint so beginners are able to use this easily and it gives great results. I removed a lot of oxidation from my rig with this setup and put down some good shine.

The buffer type units from Sears and such for $50 are not going to cut it. They are really only for taking off wax.
