I have a 9 mon old and a 5 mon old kittens (cats) and a waterbed. The boys play all the time and love each other. Twice tonite though I heard Peanut the littlest one cry and when I went down TJ was had him on his back on the water bed and was laying on his head and Peanut could not push him off probably because when he pushed he would sink down. Could TJ accidently smother Peanut? We work all day and dont want to come home and find a dead kitten. We cant close the door all the way so I dont know what to do

I've never heard of any cat who had criminal intent. Not likely to be an accident either since it's almost impossible to actually hold a cat down if he doesn't WANT to be held down.

yes they can, mothers do it all the time to there young ones don't think its on purpose thou.would be better to close that door till the smaller one is bigger, you also dont want leaks in the water bed from claws unless you have a thick cover over it.

I agree - you need to find some way to keep them from getting on the bed. It would be accidental, but a likely outcome since the little one cannot push hard enough to get out from under.

Tom cats do indeed have murderous intentions toward baby kittens, sometimes, but what you describe is not that kind of situation. TJ is play-wrestling with Peanut but you are justified in your concern. The waterbed makes an unfair advantage to the older kitty. If he even when to sleep with Peanut pinned down like that, it could be fatal to the kitten. I agree, I'd find some way to keep them out of that room when you're gone.

Question... would finding a fix for a few months buy Peanut the time he needs to get bigger and stronger. Guess I'm thinking that even a quick fix (like an ironing board or lightweight card table on the bed) might keep the kitties off for a few weeks?

Then when Peanut is no longer a little guy, he can fend for himself in playtime.

Hey, I understand.

I recall those Head Locks when we were children and the older kids played too rough
