Hi All,
I'm fairly new to the RV world. I recently won a 2008 40 ft Monaco Knight and was wondering what kind of vehicle would one recommend as a tow vehicle or should I invest in a tow dolly to pull my front wheel drive Nissan Maxima? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would not have a tow dolly. Where do you put it at many of the camp sites?

Tow dollies are easy to use and store, we just slip ours under the end of the MH. Have used one for several years. We have just switched to a trailer due to towing requirements of our new tow vehicle. Much prefer dollies over towing 4 down, as four down is much more convienent but creates more wear and tear on the tow vehicles ( dollies are cheap). JMHO.

I've had a tow dolly for 5 years and never had a problem of where to put it in a campground, always behind my MH.

Had a tow dolly, tow 4 down now. The tow dolly was a requirement for the car I had at the time. For ME, the tow dolly was too much trouble (ymmv). It took me up to 20 min to hookup and 10 min to unhook. Nor I have a Blue Ox tow bar and a car I can tow 4 down (I needed a new car so a major consideration was tow-ability). It takes about 2 min to hookup and unhook. If your tow'd will pull 4 down, I recommend it. My tire ware is a little strange (tires ware like under inflated but they are not) bit the convenience far out weighs the tire ware problems.

I like my tow dolly just fine. It's not so much trouble once you get the routine down. One thing that I do is keep a thick soft rope in the car trunk to hitch around the dolly at the axle midpoint and pull it around where I want to while the wife holds the tongue up and steers. They are very difficult to handle on rough ground just by the tongue.

HI,
We tow with a Blue Ox, it works well. I can handle it when I am alone, doesn't take too much physical energy to hook up and unhook. We haven't used a dolly, but sure wouldn't even consider it. As well, it is important to do research and be sure that the vehicle you choose to tow is compatable. My research shows that Jeep and Saturn are good choices, but Motorhome Magazine has a list that gives this information. Enjoy your rving experiences.

I like my tow dolly just fine. It came with brakes. 10 minutes to hook up. 5 or less minutes to unhook. No need to mess with hooking up a brake buddy if towing four down.
