We have just purchased our first Trailer after over 30 years of tenting. No I'm not ready to give up the tent!!!
But we pick up our Rockwood 2605 on Friday & are doing a test run for the Thanksgiving Weekend.
I have to admit after seeing all you guys in trucks I am a wee bit nervous about hauling a 3771 dry weight trailer with a 2007 GMC Envoy Denali. It is a V8 with 373 & listed to tow 6100 lbs. Tongue weight 500. We are below both & are getting equalizer hitch & trailer brakes added to the SUV.
Loaded we should run another 700 lbs I think as it's just us 2 adults.
Anyone else out there not in a truck and hauling?

I would make sure that the hitch you are getting is an Equilizer brand with the built in sway Equal-i-zer not just an equilizing hitch. There are alot of folks here that really like the Equal-i-zer and swear by it. Pulling a 27' TT with a 113" wheelbase SUV can be done, just make sure that your towing equipment is up to the job. Such as tires, brakes, cooling system and yourself. For additional tips, look here:

I've been using Suburbans for years! This is my 4th. Untill the past few years you could only get a crew cab with a long bed, this made the truck too big for many of my select spots. The Envoy has a short wheel base so make sure your set up right for sway. We don't want the tail to wag the dog! Good luck.

Read the information in RV Towing Tips that was provided in the link above. Lots of great information concerning weight and lenght. Concerns I have would center around the length of the TT vs the wheelbase of the TV. Sway can be a big factor that is initialed by the ratio of length to wheelbase. Be sure you get your Equalizer hitch dial in right.
Another concern is the GWVR and the GCWR which are often overlooked when you are withing the towing capacity of the SUV. I found I was very very very close on these with the Suburban we were using as our first tow vehicle. You can be within towing capacity and still be overweight.
Head to the scales and get all the numbers to see where you are.

I am not a fan of using the small and mid size SUVs for towing a TT. Been there and done that and will not do it again. They will tow the trailers, but not very well or comfortably. You can get by with short tows (2 to 3 hours), but a long trip will be very tiring.
Personally, I'd limit the Envoy and such to about a 22' max length trailer, regardless of the weight.
There is a lot more to towing than weight. You have a big box that catches the wind and you have to be able to control the trailer and the truck has to be up to the job. A shortr wheelbase and high center of gravity are noth waht you want to do this.

Thank you for the info & the links.
I can't believe how mislead I have been these last 5 years that I have spent looking at the RV shows & talking to the reps.
I have bought based on weight & persoal preferences of the brand & layout.
After a quick look at the link and knowing my wheelbase is 113" & the overall length hitch to...is 27'1" I am over length by 5ft.
My Total Gross Combined weight allowable is 11500 lbs. Vehicle comes in at 6001 lbs dry weight trailer 3771 lbs.(according to specs)Then load I am at the limit.
This sounds like with the anti sway & the equalizer hitch & the brakes I may still have a problem.

Don't freak out man. Tow it first, then start making accessments. One thing that makes a big difference on sway is to air up your rear tires to the maximum pressure that is stamped on the sidewall.
I used to tow with a Yukon (and same TT in sig). I had pretty bad sway with wind and especially when Semi's passed me.
Then I found out that I was supposed to air the tires up. I went from saving up for a sway control device, to realizing that I didn't really need one. It made a big difference.
Don't worry about your weight, you're close enough.

I have been ther, done that with the Trailblazer, mind you the smaller engine, but the rest is the same.
I was pulling only 19ft and it was not fun. For a short, flat trip under 2hrs your white knuckle drive should be ok.
Then you'll upgrade like the rest of us!
