I used the RV Real Value Member card at Flying J in Carneys Point on 9-30-08. I used the truck pumps and paid with my Chase Visa Card.
Before I had rec'd the cash price. This time I received the credit price.
I purchased 130 gal of fuel for my MDT.
When I called Flying J, they said as of 9/1/08, they no longer accepted the RV card at the truck islands, only the RV islands.
They also said that they only give the cash price when using THEIR master card!
I was told that a flyer went out to all RV members stating this.
Funny, though, I didn't receive one.
At least they could have posted that on the truck islands.
Most MDT and HDT users will use the truck islands.
RV'ers are loyal to Flying J, but now is just another reason to leave them.
Over the past year, at least, I've seen a decline in the quality of their in-store help and their facilities - rest rooms, restaurants, etc.
As far as I'm concerned, I think RV'ers should boycott Flying J.

I have been dealing with Flying J here in Utah and Wyoming, for the past few years and have not had a problem with the station, facilities or personnel. Could it be a local problem?

I have the same card and also an MDT which I fuel in the truck side. The problem as I see it would be; is there another company that gives, 1/ease of access as most F/J's do? 2/ Any kind of discount at all?
I understand your anger and have also not received any notice of change of policy, but I'm not going over to the Love's that routinely charge more for anything. I don't use the F/J's restaurants as I find their food is just the thing to make my cholesterol count shoot through the roof and items you can buy in their store are much cheaper through the national autoparts chains anyway. I also don't use their restrooms as there is absolutely NO truck stop out there that I would refer to as clean! I can't/wont use the RV islands as they usually require a tight left after exiting the pumps and you end up duking it out with honda civics shooting through the gas pumps to park as close to the restaurant as they can. At over 60' length those pump islands are more trouble for me than they're worth with their smaller feed nozzles.
So for me, the only thing F/J's have ever provided me, is easy in, easy fill, easy pay and easy out! That is probably not going to change and I will suffer the loss of a couple of cents rebate on the gallon if they're still cheaper in the long run.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

It's not the penny discount. According to Flying J that's been outlawed in NJ, which I don't doubt.
It's the difference in the cash price and credit price. On 150 gallons, that's at 5 cents a gallon. If I use $1000 of fuel in, let's say, two weeks, which I will do over the course of a long trip, that can amount to $50 per thousand miles.
I'm using diesel, obviously.
And, yes, 2oldman, I have a 5th wheel and '01 Intl 4700LP.
And, yes, I've had several diesel MH.
But, it doesn't matter what you drive or which fuel you use.
The fact remains that Flying J used to be decent to RVj'ers.
I would suggest that Flying J is the most used facility when you're in a location that gives you choices of Flying J and others.
The fact that they said they sent notices, when it's obvious that they didn't, is a slap in the face to good customers.
It's not just me, but others who haven't rec'd the notices.
They could have posted a notice at the pumps, but they didn't.
I remember when they stopped taking Visa cards - at least here in NJ, with no warning. They just stopped.
Seems to me, as others have stated, they just don't care about good customers.
Have you ever seen the lines at the RV pumps in Georgia, El Paso?

Flying J like everyone else is feeling the way the economy is going. If you don't like their prices and practices just go somewhere else. I agree they could use more RV aisles.

We just came from western MT to eastern NC and used Flying J for fuel all the way. SInce we hold 250+ gallons and have a range of well over 2,000 miles, we can pick the cheapest places to get fuel. Since Sep 1, we pay cash at Flying J - no big deal. We haven't noticed any difference in their service or facilities in all the years we've been rving. Wish I could say the same about their fuel prices.
